The San Luis Obispo area is nice, but a bit far. Going from the Live PD image of Salinas, I would avoid anything close to that lol

Maybe Foster City (right off Hwy 92, East of Hwy 101), San Mateo, Half Moon Bay or Pacifica?

I wouldn't consider San Bruno, Daly City or Colma.

If you are planning to take 101 from Malibu (depending on traffic it may be quicker or a wash to take 5 to 580, in which case I'd recommend dublin, pleasonton or Livermore - not the East Bay/ Hayward to stay in), most anywhere between Sunnyvale and Millbrae along El Camino Real is going to be ok, though it feels safer to me parking wise between Palo Alto and Sunnyvale. There are tons of options. I stayed at the Maple Tree Inn in Sunnyvale last year for a soccer tournament, it was cheapish and clean and even though the parking was pretty open (not covered so that's good) it felt safe enough to park the Tacoma there. Lots of food and entertainment options pretty close. Not the closest to SF but it's a straight shot up 101 or 280 so doesn't take too long.

After you're done in SF you'll want to grab the Bay Bridge and take 80 towards Sacramento

South of airport there are a ton of hotels then a few more in San Mateo. Prob easiest south of SF. Big parking lots.

Why not San Bruno? I live there and my trucks have lived on the street with 0 issues for the last 10 years.

I would suggest staying at one the SFO hotels near Millbrae and finding some food in Burlingame. 20 minute drive up 101 to SF.

Actually, now that I think about it from what I remember of San Bruno it was nice. My sister used to live on the west side of 280. Quiet. I just remember Daly City and the surrounding area as being really active and not in a good way. Had 2 family members there with DCPD. Crazy the stuff that goes down in that city.

Cat theft is huge and putting the taco in a unsecured outdoor hotel lot gives me the willies. :annoyed:

Not worried, I have insurance. I don't live my life scared, I don’t have 25 cameras on my house. I did stupid shit as a kid and some day karma will repay me.

I was born and raised in the SF Bay Area. Haven’t lived there for many years and will never set foot in SF again. It’s a crime ridden shithole in many many ways. You do not want to venture into SF with your truck or your family. It’s unsafe and unhealthy for you, your family and your vehicle. Stay in a suburb that is served by BART. Since you are only there for a day have your brother take BART and come to visit you. He knows his way around and apparently doesn’t have a problem getting around the Bay Area on public transportation. A couple suburbs that BART serves are Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Orinda, Pleasant Hill. You can locate hotels/motels in each of these cities by searching the internet. These are all very nice places and low crime. You’ll be safe there and your truck should be too. Just don’t go into SF in your truck or any other way. Seattle is bad, SF is way worse.

So many negative vibes in this thread. SF native here. It's always had its fair share of car break-ins and petty crime. The key is to be smart, don't leave ANYTHING in your car, park in well lit areas, stay away from touristy zones. I've never had a window smashed ~20 years of having a car there. Lots of neighborhoods with low window smash rates, Ingleside, Sunset, Richmond, Noe, Glen Park, Pac Heights to name a few. You should be fine for one night.

There’s an average of 74 car break ins a day in SF. The areas in SF you list are still high crime, just not as bad as some other areas. Oh yeh and good luck finding a place to park in those areas. And if you were lucky and did find a place to park then you would have to contend the zillion lowlifes that inhabit SF and try not to be accosted, mugged, robbed or otherwise hassled. You’d have to step over and around drug addicts passed out on the sidewalk, human excrement, garbage and a number of other disgusting things. Trust me on this you do not want to go into SF, especially if you don’t know your way around. Don’t take a chance, have your brother come to you.

My wife’s SUV has had the windows smashed 3 times ruining errands in that delightful city.

It’s the worst I’ve seen it in 15 years.

I’d avoid the city. Go to Pacifica, Daly City, or S San Francisco.

I think for me at least, point I was trying to make is you don't want to put your lifted taco in a public parking lot overnight unless its secured. That pretty much goes for anywhere these days. It's like hanging a huge NEON sign that screams "TAKE MY CAT". Insurance? Most have comp coverage so thats all good but wonder what the wait time will be for that replacement to come in? Bet it'll take some time.

Didn't intend any disrespect to any one city. Hoping op finds a nice monitored hotel lot. Now that I think about it, Hyatt Regency at San Francisco Airport (Burlingame) isn't bad. Last time I was there, the parking lot was a secured lot.

Lol just park in the lots when you go you’ll be fine. Just don’t park in streets around downtown if you don’t have to. Everywhere else should be fine. Just figure out where you are going to meet your brother and plan around that. I don’t think he’s going to be walk around TL area or doing touristy stuff/exploring the city. If you’re scared leave your car at your hotel and take Uber/lift you don’t have to worry about anything. Lol

It's overnight parking he's looking for. A place for him and the fam to stay overnight.

Good god there are a bunch of whinny nor cal members. OP will be fine staying anywhere south of SF at a Hotel. OP will be fine parking for a few hours and visiting. OP would actually be fine staying in the city. Marriott has its own oversized parking area. Just started there a few weeks ago for our Holliday party.

My wife’s friend was also assaulted on the BART recently, just for the crime of being Asian.
