    Actually that's super true.

If there was news on your TV that the Calgary tower had been hit by a plane before 9/11 you'd be like "Fucking Canuks...who gave them something with a combustion engine that doesn't start with a crank?"

    Yes.
I happened to be home sick from school that day, watched it all unfold on the news with my family.

I had just arrived at work. I worked for AOL at the time. When the 2nd tower fell AOL started to receive threats that some of our sites would be next. Our corporate headquarters is just out side of DC so they made the move to evacuate all of the site. Once I got all of the employees sent home form the three sites in Tucson I just sat in my office and watched TV with the site security for the rest of the day. All of us in total disbelief as to what happened.

I'm in the Canadian Navy and had just got home from being on duty overnight and was resting and my wife called me from work and told me to turn on the TV as something big was happening stateside. I was also in the Persian Gulf when the war started in Iraq on 20 Mar 2003. Our ship did many high-value American escorts up through the Strait of Hormuz before the war started.
I am deeply saddened for your Nation's loss.

I remember it like it was yesterday. The night before we just went back on nights. I got home around 11:30 p.m. hit the hey around 2 a.m.. I was planning on sleeping in when my wife called me about quarter to six and told me a plane crashed into the World Trade Center in New York. I got up and just as I turned on the tube the second plane went into the other tower. I was like, "What the hell?" And as the news was still on the burning towers, they said that one crashed into the Pentagon and another in Pennsylvania. All flights were canceled and all. Crazy!!

I usually don't post... I just read the site, but this one hits home.

I was on the 12th floor of my office in Jersey City directly across the Hudson River from the WTC. A guy that sat at the other end of the floor said that his wife called and a "plane" hit one of the towers. We opened the blinds (typically closed because of sun glare) and saw one tower on fire. We thought it must have been a Cesna when we first heard the news but the fire was extraordinary to say the least. My co-workers and I were watching the fire when a low flying plane appeared and one of my co-workers said, "Why is that plane so low?". At that point the plane tipped its wings and slammed into the 2nd tower. I had an unbelievable "hollow" in my chest at that point and still get goose bumps when I talk about it to this day. Tragic that people who wanted nothing else other than to earn a good living for themselves and their families had to suffer such an ordeal.

We evacuated our building but we were advised by my company's management that we were safer in the building. Nobody had a clue what was going on so we went back inside. We watched the fire from the 12th floor for a while and I remember saying to someone that I thought one of the buildings looked crooked, but we weren't sure because of how the smoke line was on a diagonal across the building. We all know what happened next. I only knew one person that perished; a high school classmate who was a Port Authority cop.

I have been looking across the river at Manhattan most of my life. The towers had such a presence it made the mile wide Hudson River look like a creek. Now Manhattan looks so far away.

Those events made a true patriot out of me. People can bitch and moan all they want about the wars, etc, etc, but I'll be damned if we get caught with our pants down again!

I was sitting in my den on my deployment return days off (had just gotten back the saturday before from PSAB) watching tv and playing on my computer - deciding what to do that day. Just sat there watching the events unfold on tv. Since I lived on an Air Force base, wondered if my base was safe or if we were next.

I was testifying in court when the baliff pulled the judge aside and court was adjourned. I was on duty most of that day. It was very surreal. The major concern was that the FBI fingerprint center here would be the next target.

I was assisting in a CS procedure in the Operating room back in the Philippines. We are closing the abdominal layer when one of the anesthesiologist came in and announced the US was under attack.

It was surreal, this can't be real, this can't be happening! That is what I felt that time. We expected to be drafted really soon too.

I was at Camp McCall going through selection. I didn't make it though, blew out my ankle 3 days later. There was a lot of picking grass out of the rocks waiting for the cadre to write something on the board.

I'm on the west coast so I got up after the towers had already fallen. I turned on the radio as I took a shower and heard the news. I grabbed a towel and turned on the TV. I couldn't believe it. I then went to work at Intel where I was testing DSL adapaters so I watched "tv" on the internet all day. I had been to New York many times and had done some consulting jobs at the WTC and I was stunned because of the number of people that would have been in that area at the time. I was sure the death toll would have been much higher. I still can't believe how many people were saved that day. Good Job NYFD and NYPD!

    getting there....
i was at work.....listening to ace and tj(local radio show)...and the breaking news came in about a plane crashing into the wtc. we all were talking about "damn......bad morning in new york....flying into a damn building"....then the reality set in as they reported a 2nd plane had hit......and then said something about "it sounded likes bombs going off at the pentagon"............it was definitely a surreal moment. all of us at work that day gathered round the television....lil black and white 13 incher, and watched the news most of the day. definitely a perspective changing moment there.

I was in kosovo on a deployment standing in the hanger when our commanding officer told us what happened, so we hauled ass over to the.chow hall to see the second plane hit the tower. I will never forget that image.
