  1. Yes, got the TSB done with no pushback.

  2. Yes, but had to fight my way to have the TSB performed.

  3. No, dealership claims they need to "diagnose the problems"

  4. No, dealership claims TSB isn't available.

There's been a lot of chatter on here of people who got the TSB done and seem to be very happy/content with the results but unfortunately there seems to be almost the same amount of people who have not been able to get the TSB done by multiple dealers.

When I went in for mine, they wanted to verify the TSB as they have not heard of it. Then they asked me to explain the issue as they won't do a flash if there is no problems. I explained the issue and they went for a test drive. 2 hours later they told me its done.

My truck was already in the service dept. the day it came out so I emailed a PDF of the TSB to my service advisor and they installed it the same day. Picked it up in the afternoon and all was well.

Bringing a print out may help as mentioned. I had also complained previously of the shifting delays, cruise control sticking in 4th, and harsh shifting so I already had 3 of 3 issues documented beforehand. Might have had something to do with it. I was the first one to have it done at that dealership too, so maybe they just needed a test truck too, lol.

I took a copy of the TSB PDF with me and the service guy looked at it typed the information on the paper into the computer and told me it would be done by the end of the day. I think without the print out I probably would've had a harder time.

Toyota of Orange in Southern California has been doing 3-4 of them a day. They knew exactly what I was talking about, but they required me to leave the car overnight for the transmission to cool since it's been so hot around here.

They knew the routine though - checked ATF fluid, flashed the computer with the new transmission programming, and greased the u-joints.

I have a great service dealer. (not the one I bought the truck from). Took the TSB with me. No questions asked. Just "yes sir we'll take care of it" Had a rattle/squeak too they found and fixed. (front right body mount)
The service writer did say it was the first one he personally dealt with.

Had the truck in for the 10K service. I gave him a copy of the TSB for both the transmission and the howling. He asked me what the transmission was doing. I told him it is doing what the TSB mentioned. Both were completed. I already had plugs in so I removed mine and had them put their's in. Theirs look better than the ones I had from Lowe's.

Now your rear end might start howling. It makes a very similar sound as the front holes. Feather throttle at 55 to 60mph and report back!

Set an appointment online for yesterday and wrote in the TSB for my appt...they performed it with no issues. Truck runs a lot better IMO.

Actually my truck drove pretty good before the TSB and after I plugged the holes everything was good. I removed my plugs so they can install their own. The truck drives the same but the transmission seems better. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Right but It's not an issue with how it drives, it's a problem with the rear differential assembly and the gears wearing prematurely. If you feather the throttle and can hear a howling noise at highway speeds, there's a good chance you have the same issue as many others here and probably will require a rear differential replacement. See here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/poll-rear-end-noise-howling-when-feathering-throttle.442341/

Update now have about a week on the new TSB:

Mine definitely shifted better right away but I feel like it's relapsing a tad.... getting the downshifts a little more often now when trying to coast at say 35 or 40mph. Still getting bit of shift flare now top from 2nd to 3rd in AM when "cold"...(never that cold here)

Still have bit of dead pedal feeling when coasting say 35 to 40 take foot off pedal....put back in it kind of lags. Feel like have to put pedal too far down to get it to GO.

It's better but certainly room for improvement.

Got the update today and also asked that the u-joints be greased. Service advisor tried to tell me there are no zerks and the u-joints are not serviceable. I politely disagreed, The repair order states in addition to TSB 0077-16 (op code TC1601) performed, the u-joints were greased. The service advisor was "unavailable" when I picked up the truck. Maybe hiding out so he wouldn't have to explain how the tech greased the u-joints that "don't have zerk fittings".

Anyway there is a noticeable difference for the better! The transmission shifts as I expect it to now. I also don't have the vibration when coming to a stop.

My wife also noticed the difference, and I had not talked with her about this in advance. We made a 400 mile road trip recently over mountain passes from 400 to 4,000 feet+ and she said today that the truck seemed to be a lot smoother, before it seemed "jerky" like it couldn't find the right gear. Just goes to show you the problem was apparent to her with no advance notice of the situation.

BTW, the dealer did not put a sticker indicating the TSB update under the hood.

Did you tell them that there was a howling noise coming from under the truck in order for them to plug the holes?
I think I read on here that there was a TSB for that also right?
