Rack makes having the light bar up there look so much better. They just look too much like the old duckbill things from the 80s up there all by their selves..............

    Wait for it...
I remember this truck from Instagram (Toyotamaniacs page). Had a little rear end collision. Glad to see a Yota still on the road even if a new owner.

I thought that truck got totaled. Apparently it wasn't as bad as it looked

4x conversion makes for a good laugh when out on trails with other Toyota people that actually know what a prerunner is. The looks of shock and disbelief when a prerunner can easly clime the same hill

@YamaDirtrider your build is one I’ve looked to do inspiration I have the parts, now just need decent weather to start working and assembly. The only thing I don’t have is a rear drive shaft but I plan on having a one piece made

I've herd good and bad about a one peice read shaft, some like them and help with lift vibe issues. There exposed a bit more when it comes to rocks and off-road, and for a dclb its right at the max leingth for a 1 peice

Forgot about this thread after i lifted mine a while back. Im running king ext travel coilovers w/ the 700lb springs on the amount of preload that they were sent to me with. Ended up with about 3.5 inches of lift up front. (I have a 2.7L prerunner w/ 5spd)

    IMG_3043.jpg

Heres a pic to show how much preload is on them

Its pretty firm on washboard roads at low speeds, but it eliminated the nose diving i was getting when i have to brake hard when traveling quicker. Once you get up above 15-30mph off road, it soaks it all up and rides like butter. It should only get better as i add a winch, sliders, and other weight to it. Im pleased with how it rides and i figured itd be much easier to just lessen the preload if i wanted to lower down the front if i needed to smooth things out. i didnt want to try and add preload to them since from what ive read its a total pain in the ass, and id rather get the lift from the springs versus preloading the hell out of them.

    Bros...

If costs were equal, would you do a 4x4 conv with a front locker, regear and 35s, or Long travel the front end with glass, regear the rear and 35s?

Depends on what you want the truck to do. You looking for more high speed desert or rocks? Personally I wound do a limited ship In the front

    Do you more often wish:
    You had 4x4?
    Or
    You could go faster?

    Another question:
Would it be better to 4x4 swap now and save up more to LT it later?
Or the opposite, LT now and 4x4 later?

Edit: if you plan to go long travel, don't forget the cost of the cage. Without one you really shouldn't go THAT much faster than with mid travel.

Hmmph. We wheel more here in texas but i sure do love going fast. Good point on the cage.. i cant really afford a full LT build, the 4x4 conv is more realistic

Im probably selling my beloved Ducati to fund this since i never ride any more

I've had the same thoughts

Can you do the conversion and fab work? How would you have it done?

Nah no fab work. My dad is a machinist and welder, but id never ask him to tackle a big project.

Local yota offroad shop ive been in talks with are eager to get started on it. Ill probably to the drive shaft, transmission, tcase/twin stick and rear regear first. It will take some time to source a clamshell then have it rebuilt with a locker and gears. Then ill need to get hubs, cvs, mounting hardware and a standalone ADD switch.

If i decide i never wanna go fast i can do a SAS instead as that wont change the trans/tcase sitch.
