This. Here in town you see a ton of brand new 50k-80k trucks with lifts and mud tires. It’s not uncommon to see Denalis, 2500s, raptors, and everything in between lifted. Yet none of these guys actually do any off-roadies to warrant the 4x4, lifts, or tires.

I mean, I don’t really understand why anyone would buy a new tacoma then dent it up/ scratch it, get mud in the engine compartment, break things etc. It would make me cringe.....but it’s your tuck, do what you want with it. When I get the money I’m going to get a old truck for less than half what I’d pay for a DD to do the off-road thing. Then if it breaks or I get a dent who cares.

Hey guys, scrolling through I see a ton of great looking 2wd trucks but no description of the lift! I’m looking to get mine up 2-3” but unsure of the best way. She’s mainly a highway rider, but every once and a while I might do some light trail rides. Any suggestions? Through my research I’ve seen that sometimes going with billies, coils, and leafs can make the truck ride hard which I’m trying to avoid. I’ve talked with Marie at Headstrong and she’s given me several ideas, but I’d like some actual feedback!

Here she is stock (minus the bull bar)

Wasn’t planning to add any weight to the truck. I know Marie from HeadStrong had mentioned spindles to avoid that issue. I’m hoping to do it myself/with help.

If you dont plan on doing a 4x4 conversion, spindles is def a good option. You get 4 inches of lift and dont need UCAs to keep your alignment in spec, the downside is youll need to spend on some expos or dakar rear leaf packs and extended rear shocks, or get blocks to level the truck out.

The other option for your budget is bilstein 5100s all around, 885 coils up front, add a leaf in the rear.

Yeah, I do regret not purchasing a 4x4 from the get-go, but I won’t be doing any conversion on this one. I’m trying to decide between the spindle/AAL option and the 5100s/coils/AAL option. At what point would I need to upgrade the UCAs? I’m Not sure which lift would be better, but I think if i go spindles that I’ll drfiinitely have to upgrade from my 265/70/16 tires and im not sure how long that would take to purchase on top of the lift.

well, I have some assembled front 5100s with 885s, 35-40k miles for sale.. if it helps any. 150 shipped?

coil option will ride better than stock, but spindles will keep your alignment true without UCAs, plus an extra inch of lift

That’s a great price. 885s provides 2” or 3” if lift? Is it a for sure thing that I’d need UCAs if I go the coil option?

Hey ya'll new to TW and finally found a thread discussing the lift I want, I just want to be sure I understand because I only recently got my truck. 07 PreRunner TRD Sport 2wd Access Cab. Wish I had a 4x4 but don't need it, I like driving glorified forestry roads that are just a lil' dirty and bumpy. I want 2"-3" lift mostly for looks/clearance plus fitting larger tire/rim setup. Am I correct in stating that I can choose:
1: Bilstein 5100's (adjustable) in front with 885 springs, Bilstein 5100's in rear with Add a Leaf, with or without upper control arm depending on how important my alignment is to me = 3 lift all around
2: Spindles up front, extended shocks in rear with a leaf pack = 4" lift all around
I can choose front/rear lift amounts independently to achieve a level vs. "raked" look (leaning forward)

    Couple "dumb" questions though;
Difference between AAL and Leaf packs?
If I opt for NOT getting UCA's, how bad is the alignment out of whack if I go Bilstein all-around option?
    Are bilstein 5100's extended shocks?
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me empty my bank account

You're on the right track with options 1 and 2.
If you do get new spindles you'll need aftermarket wheels with 4.5" backspacing though, that's an added cost there. Spindles are great though! It's 4" of lift and 4" of ground clearance since you're essentially relocating your front wheels lower.

An AAL is simply adding either 1 or 3 extra leafs to the bottom of your existing leaf pack. It's a great value method to add some height to the truck, and a perfect option to match the height with some 5100s.
A full leaf pack gives you greater options in lift height and ride quality. You can go with something that built for flex, weight carrying, in the middle. The big advantage is you're changing to a pack with more thinner leafs creating a more progressive and comfortable pack.

I'm leaning more towards the Bilstein-All-Around option for some reason. I can lift 3" in front with springs, shocks, and UCA's. 2" in back with AAL. Achieving a level but all-around higher truck. Is there any mechanical advantage of choosing springs and shocks over spindles? Greater articulation? Are they overall the same cost unless you can find some components used? (I'm a shorter guy, 3" was my max lift. In fact, my original idea was to just level the front.)
