Where's my old woodruff key??????

    Just found this thread and this exact experience has happened to me this week. My crankshaft bolt was loose fan was hitting Harmonic balancer.. that how I found out about theb olt being loose. And when I got I tightened up the front crankshaft seal blew. Been working and when I was off it was raining. So what ever happened ? Did 6ou get your Taco back on the road?

    Bummer man, you find that your woodruff key and the keyway in the crank are still okay?

    It is really stupid how the key / slot does not go the entire length of the balancer, like every other friggen crankshaft / balancer I have ever seen. I guess it is so the balancer is easy to pull off... But what I want to say is that keeping the front splash pan on at all times, I believe, helps keep salt water from the road out of that area and makes it easier to deal with... It is really hard to get that crank bolt on tight enough, with a manual trans. (in gear and some one standing on the brakes) I can't imagine doing it on an automatic with a holder tool.

    I do it with the tool by myself the tool can barely hang on the pulley, I have an automatic.. I’m not weak but I ain’t Iron Mike.
