Your dealer doesn't make the call to replace frame or not. Pictures are sent to one person and he/she determines if it fails. I think at least one inspection a year would be covered. Keep and eye on it and if you see a hole take it in

I see that as a huge safety concern. Due to the fact that a visual inspection alone (When Toyota takes pictures and sends them to corporate for a decision.) fails to accurately show the extent, depth of the layer separation. thus fails to accurately show the extent of the damage. Then they CRC coat the frame with Noxudol 300, Noxudol 300s and Parker 712AM (this coating is sticky, waxy and goes on very thick and black. Hiding condition from owner or potential consumers)
My frame rot was so bad on my truck that the undercoating was the sticky glue Holding my frame together.

other manufactures see this concern and they make sure that when the vehicle is tested and fails, it fails in a shop environment, not on the hi-way at hi-way speeds. They do needle scaling and hammer punch testing to critical areas of concern (from visual inspection) and or areas of concern set forth by manufacturer.
the mechanic should be the one that determines weather your truck leave the shop or not. not some guy looking at a photo of a frame hole some where in a office.

YES! That's the only way I got something done. My dealer was cocky and arrogant and just denied me the time of day till I got corporate involved.

As far as I could see it didn't have a limited number of inspections printed.

To produce rust like this would be due to salt spray or two parts rubbing together (chafing the coating). Unless it's welded together it can move with the right amount of force. The picture I'm talking about is the riviet location with rust surrounding the overlapping part.

Got my loaner. 2017 3.5 auto 2wd. 4500 miles on her. Well, plus the 200 I put on it today..Lol.
Gotta say, I thought I wanted a new Tacoma but these things are nothing like the second gens.
Anything under 60mph and rpms are under 1500. These motors don't start making power till at least 2-2500rpm so your constantly lugging around in overdrive while city driving.
Highway cruising is fantastic. 80mph and 2000 rpm. BUT, any slight incline and the speed drops dramatically till you downshift.
This combination of small displacement engine, 6 speed trans, and tall gears in the rear end just does not match. Anyways, at least I got it.
Manager said this morning I was approved and they ordered the frame but may take a month+ just to get it. Then, they don't disassemble the truck till the frame gets there so they will have to order parts AS they break and wait for those to come in. I asked about backorder and he says as of now he hasn't heard much of one....YET.
This could very well turn into a 4-6 month job.

    I am assuming this is a 3.5L V6?

Yea. I haven't looked them up as far as displacement but I think the power is 275ish at 6000 rpm.

Exactly. No thought was put into placing the horsepower or torque in a useable RPM range.
Unless you redline the truck every time you drive.

If they would just stretch out the shift a little bit and it seems like it goes into lockup in every other gear. My 06 is like that too. The 32" tires helped somewhat on the early shift but lugs in overdrive now. I ride in 4th unless I'm on a stretch.

One reason I'm in a 4Runner instead of new taco.

I was in a rental for 5 months waiting for my frame replacement, a 2wd however wouldn't cut it for me.

Good spread of info. I stumbled upon that a bit ago. That's the email I referenced to Toyota and my Dealer both when battling over my frame.
As far as dealers going googly eyes....
I'd be very interested to hear how anybody else's experience is going so far with the new batch of Rusty Frame Replacements.

And also...WHERE THE HELL ARE THOSE RUSTY FRAME PICS??? o_O

Man, seeing these pictures makes me more and more thankful I'm in Texas with my Tacoma. Away from road salt, and ocean air salt

Seeing all these pics added scares the shit out of me

Imagine my surprise being raised in the southern states, to crawl under my new to me truck and find festering holes everywhere. It truly was Cancer.

My dealer has been really professional about it. I found out about the issue a couple months after the limited service campaign ended and right away the manager told me there was a law suit going on that could potentially include my truck and since then he kept me posted. Called me the same day the email was posted up by one of you guys. I can not really complaint as of now. Also they inspected my truck before the inspections were supposed to get started at no cost but apparently that inspection was not valid.
