Keeping it pretty stock w/ creature comforts to come in the future.
Hey man, I think I remember seeing on here somewhere that you had to have been an owner of the vehicle prior to 16 Dec 16 for you to be covered under the recall. Could be wrong, but this might be worth looking into. I'm assuming that by new owner you wouldn't fall into that category, again, this could be a bad assumption.

Ill try and find the post where I saw that.

FOUND IT- Correct date of ownership is 2 Dec 2016 (Post #8)

Yea , I bet . I am mechanically handicapped myself so it wouldn't be me tackling that job . I think I will leave it alone for a while and bring it in to Toyota and see what they think .

Wow, for being from upstate NY I think that frame looks good. Really fine job keeping up on maintenance of that thing.
But, as you say, WITH all the preventative detail it still has more rust than should.

Playing the clock is what I was thinking with this also. My truck is already 11 years old. 12 years is cutoff and they're only giving a year from Final Judgement Date (4-27-17) for vehicles over 12 years of first use.
Either way, once my truck hits 12 years old I'll have burned through that year, mostly.

Yea bud, I've thought of this. My dad was fixing to let the truck go back cause he couldn't afford payments of 500/month, so, I left it in his name and just make the payments.
I was going to get it swapped over till I seen that little stipulation about ownership dates.
Really sucks cause I'm stuck with his interest rate till all this settlement is over...

Everytime I drive this truck I have to cross my fingers. o_O
I had to change out a front hub bearing this morning and I think a quarter of the truck is on the shop floor from the rust that fell out while working on it.

I've never seen steel de-laminate like the frame on my truck. Rust scale sure, but this is only on the edges and it's peeling/lifting up like an old kitchen counter made of Formica.

Not being properly notified. I didn't find out till after the leaf spring recall, which I had done, and the techs didn't even mention the Frame Settlement. I just happened to stumble across it online a year ago.

Dude, I was going to tell you that your car is about to explode....but youve put 38K on in 18 months??? Holy shit, just keep driving it. Your frame is toast. Its a total loss. There is NO repairing it. BUT.....the good news is, it wont just fold up on you one day like a broke taco shell. It will get softer and softer and start to bow more and more. You will SEE it. My buddy had an old RX7 with rot like that. We used to put 3 people in it (my GF in my lap) while he drove like a total butthole....potholes, medians, small jumps. All at 70 MPH. You could actually feel the frame starting to flex and break. The car was still driving one morning when it actually broke at 45 degrees... but it all held together and handled normally. (For a car broken at 45 degrees)

That frame is fuked. Find another car...but drive this one gently for a while.

Mine is almost four years old, no problems so far.
I do check it a few times per year, if I see anything that looks like rust it gets sanded and a spot of paint.
I do realize there are parts of this frame I can't see.

Lol, royally Fukd. I avoid the big potholes best I can and always wear my seatbelt. I'm a union worker, travel a bunch, and with this being my only ride I'm gonna have to nurse it best I can.
For as bad as the frame is, the body is great, and still rides surprisingly smooth.
Whether I get a new frame or not, I'm gonna drive it till the wheels fall off..

Yeah, I agree to the total frame replacement over the patching of the frame as suggested by oldtoyotaguy. Reason being, the frame is made of what we call in the Collision Repair business as "structural steel;" it has totally different metallurgical properties than standard steel making it a higher grade of hardness to withstand higher stress tolerances thus making it more resistant to impact. However, with that said, certain area's can be "patched in" and repaired as long as "ALL" of the rust is cut out to clean good metal and they are small enough in nature not to effect the strength and overall ductile characteristics of the frame. Where the patches are located is also a determining factor to consider because of the "Breaking points" manufactured into the frame for safety reasons, as in eg; head-on collision making the engine and frontal section of the frame to break away and move downward and out away from the passenger compartment to protect the cabin from intrusion. Anyhow, you get my point. In most of these cases of fixing or repairing the frame, the frame is always safer and more economical to replace than repair.

So I got an email from Heffler Claims. It follows...

'You can ask to be reimbursed if you previously paid for frame replacement for rust perforation that satisfies the Rust Perforation Standard on a Subject Vehicle and were not otherwise reimbursed. To be eligible for reimbursement, you must submit a Claim Form and the expenses must have been incurred prior to January 3, 2017. http://www.toyotaframesettlement.com/ If you have not previously paid for the frame replacement, but would like to get your vehicle inspected, Class Members who still own or lease their Subject Vehicles, the Frame Inspection and Replacement Program will be implemented to determine whether a Class Member’s frame should be replaced in accordance with the terms of this settlement. Toyota may decide to implement certain benefits of this settlement prior to the settlement being fully approved. The Frame Inspection and Replacement Program will begin following the date of Final Order and Final Judgment is entered and will be calculated by the longer of twelve (12) years from the date of the Subject Vehicle’s First Use, which is the date that the Subject Vehicle was originally sold or leased, or, if the Class Member has owned or leased the vehicle beyond twelve (12) years from date of First Use, one (1) year from the date of entry of the Final Order and Final Judgment.'

So I decided to be proactive...

'Hi, and thank you for the reply. I'm sure your firm is busy with the case and other's questions/comments.
I'm confused as to how to proceed...The final order was given which means I ought to be able to have my frame inspected, but, when I call my local dealership, they state they have not received anything from Toyota as to how to proceed themselves. And, until the have orders, there is nothing they can do.
So, what do I do now?
I see there have been appeals submitted to the courts on the case. So, with the Final Order being given on April 27, 2017, and only giving 12 months after Final Order for Frame Coverage of vehicles over 12 years of 'First Use'... If the appeals process takes another 10 months then my vehicle will be 12 years old, AND, it'll be over 12 months since Final Order.
It doesn't take a Certified Toyota Tech to look under my vehicle and see the damage is in excess of safe operation. Well in excess of 10mm of perforation. My frame shows signs of lamellar corrosion. It grows along grain boundaries, proceeding away from the site of initial entry, and within the structure of the metal. It is often exacerbated by poor process control during rolling at the time of manufacture. It is a cancer, and like cancer is often hidden until it is too late. Once metastasized it is unlikely to be arrested by application of any coating--removal (with possible replacement) is the only cure.
Please let me know something as soon as you can. This is my sole vehicle and I travel good distances for work. I would love to get some good information straight from the source. Thank you for the time and I hope you have a good day.
    Thanks,'
