Which 2011 models have daytime running lights?

I've got a 2011 V6 SR5 and the only lights that come on when I turn the headlight knob forward one "notch" are the tiny marker lights. The turn signal lights only work as turn signals. The manual says "if equipped" when I look for daytime running lights. I think that some models have turn signals that also function as daytime running lights, but I'm not sure. (I noticed this when I took the truck to a drive-in movie and could hardly see without turning on the headlights.) I guess I'm wondering if everything is functioning as normal with just the marker lights, or if I should be checking to see why the other lights don't come on before I get to the headlight setting. Thanks for any help.

 

I have a ‘11 TRD Sport and it has the DTRL. Not sure if specific trims always had it tho.

also, the DTRL’s are on even without the headlight stalk clicked once. It’s default for me.

 

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) is a factory installed option in response to the vehicle build / order sheet

See attached 2011 Tacoma Sales Brochure, Safety and Convenience section (about page 15).
For 2011 Tacomas, it appears DRL ON is the default condition, at least before parking or head lights are selected.

 

FYI
The default DRLs do not come on at startup if you are looking then. Must be put in gear then they flip on. Back in park they stay on until vehicle turned off or you turn the headlights on then they go off (back on when you turn headlights off). Same bulb as turn signals in front.

 

my DRL’s come on when I turn the truck on.

I think you’re mistaken this. I know they don’t turn on with the parking brake on though. But some people don’t use the parking brake

 

The DRL’s on my 2011 truck are on when the truck is running, no action necessary, other than starting the engine. I agree with you @Tcomaboy .

You could do some reverse searching. I think a few guys enjoyed turning them off as DTRL’s and just used them as turn signals. If it’s as simple as moving a fuse or a few wires to re arrange, you could reverse it if someone did it.

 

I believe there is a plug in module which is sold in Canada which converts the headlights to DRL as it is required there

 

2011 Base Access cab, manual...added the DTRL, per spec. Come on only when I put it in gear.

 

You could have a failed DTRL relay or the ground to activate has been severed.
