Then you need to go up the ladder to Toyota Corporate or another dealer if you have one near enough to you!

    Thanks for the great response.
That's a pretty comprehensive list of reasons for SR5 over the TRD OR.

Sport is out at this point. Especially after running the math and having the OR cost almost exactly the same. SR seems a bit too bare-bones for my tastes which really brings the choice down to SR5 or TRD OR.
The initial TRD OR package is nice, but with planning on upgrading over time anyway it seems like I would be paying extra for features on the TRD OR that I would be removing and/or replacing later on anyway.

I did like the feel of the TRD seats vs the regular SR5 seats. Seemed a bit more comfortable/supportive than the SR5 seats.
I guess if that were really an issue I could just replace the front seats later on with aftermarket, or even TRD, seats of my choice.

I agree with you 100 percent here, but I want to ask you why not an SR model?

Haven't given it much thought I guess. The SR model could be great. Don't they have black fender and bumpers though?

    Nah,

On a DC truck it's all painted, for some reason on an AC thy have black front ends. Not sure why Toyota is doing that? Or maybe it's just Utility Package trucks...

They do lack the MID display in the center of the gauges but are a very nicely equipped base model.

I've had my eye on one ever since I ran across this guy!

    0uTkAsT's Grown-Up Build & BS - '16 SR DCSB 4X4

All this said I totally say wait for 2017!!!!!

Consumer Reports has always tried to educate on never buying the first model year of a re-design. Just let them work some bugs out and such.

SR5 over the SR because of the dash info system and fog lights.

Haha! Yep, you're right. Any other Tacoma model besides the OR isn't capable at all. Heck, if you believe what everyone else says around here, every Tacoma model besides an OR has the capability of a Corolla! And even then, most guys think you have to dump a ton of money into an OR, ripping out all those extra goodies you paid for and replace them with "better" goodies just to get down that fire road you'll hit up maybe once a year.

Pretty much any stock Tacoma is going to be capable enough for 99% of us. The guys who know what they're doing aren't coming onto to this site asking everyone else what they should do. They also aren't buying OR's and replacing everything. A smart person would buy an SR5 and build it up from there, using the money they saved instead of buying the OR to configure a superior offload truck, but then again, I own a TRD Sport 4x4, so what do I know.

    I didn't say this.

If you're looking for an expedition vehicle, a scoop and paint (which is what Sport comes with) isn't helpful. It would be a waste of money, therefore, use that money for an OffRoad, or go to an SR5 and upgrade it.

You own a Sport. No need to get butthurt. It's cool if you like Hood Scoops. But to shit on my comment because you know I'm right, is flat out dumb.

Sport is a waste of money for what you get. He's right

Only skimmed through the thread, but I agree with those saying SR5. If you're planning on doing your own mods to the level of lockers, by the SR5 and use that saved money to make it your own. There are some pretty bad ass ones out there

That was WAY too easy! I love how the OR guys get their skirts all blown up when someone doesn't agree with them. If you're looking for an expedition vehicle you'd still be better off buying an SR5 and putting better parts on it compared to the OR. But most of us won't admit it all we really need is an SR5 for the light off roaming we do, but many just like to puff up their chests and think they need all that extra stuff to out there when in reality they really don't. And if your beating the shit out of a $34k truck and using it as a hardcore expedition vehicle I'm sure you're not worried about the warranty. But really it's your money. Waste it (I mean spend it) anyway you want. And you were the one justifying your OR purchase to me. I'm not butt hurt and I love my Sport. I'm not taking a brand new truck on nasty off road stuff. I don't need the OR. I just need something to get me back to trailheads, fire roads, etc. I got the Sport because I liked how it looked and would have been absolutely fine with the SR5 if they had one configured the way I wanted in the color I wanted when I bought he truck.

This is what's great about 'Murica! People can do whatever the hell they want with their truck and their money. I hate when people try and shove their opinions and ideals down other peoples throats on here. That's not directed at anyone in this thread, just a blanket statement. Happy 4th everyone.

I agree. The thing is if you believe that you have to learn to accept opinions form people who don't agree with you. That dude got supper pissy just because my opinion wasn't in line with his way of thinking. I simply stated my opinion and have reasons why I believed that way, attempting to give a rationale for why I thought that way. His response was to take it personal and throw a tantrum.

Happens quite often on this site. Luckily that's only a fraction of the posts on here, and the majority are very helpful and useful information.

If you're planning on modding a lot of the things on the truck yourself sticking with a cheaper model might make sense. For me I wasn't planning on doing a bunch of things to my truck. Now that I've been wheeling it a locker sure would be nice. At some point down the road I'll be adding a locker.

Imho Toyota does the SR and SR5 just right , not too much not too little and seems like a decent value. I really think the four-cylinder SR model is really the core of Toyota value and is the absolute pinnacle that put Toyota on the map today . Toyota never did a fully loaded V6 Toyota any good as there's so many more options when you get to that high price point and fuel economy versus power .
