Which 3rd Gen Taco trims have remote start?

All I know is after about a month of owning the vehicle, I read all the fine print of each of the connected services & decided there were too many privacy concerns for me so I pressed the SOS button in my truck & told the representative I wanted to cancel all free trials & opt out of all of it. I have no idea if that's the reason my remote start with the fob doesn't work, but there ya go.

 

Ahhhh!!!! It turns off for safety reasons when I open the door. Then I have to repeat the torturous process of putting my foot on the brake and pushing a button!!! Toyota sucks!! How will I ever cope?!?!?!

 

Such a dumb take. Yes, it's trivial, but it is an annoyance that other automakers have handled better. You shouldn't handwave away a bad decision by a good company. Point it out so they work on it (and yes, their PR team does keep an eye on social media and forums to identify common complaints and iteratively correct the top X number of them in the next year/model year/refresh). The right solution is to detect the key on pedal use or shift position change. No key, vehicle shuts off. Key detected, vehicle stays running. Hopefully Toyota can program that in soon, and hopefully there aren't patent licensing issues preventing them from doing so.

 

That’s very unusual. Tacomas after 2018 retain the ability for keyfob remote start without remote access subscription . I have the Toyota bulletin around somewhere explaining it.

Press Lock button two times firmly , then PRESS AND HOLD lock again until truck flashes and starts.

 

All it takes to turn it back on is the push of a button and some pressure on your brake pedal. Takes half a second to perform. Not sure why everyone complains about that.

 

Not entirely sure if the remote start is part of the connected services subscription app. I started my truck with the fob the day I picked it up from the dealership and hadn’t subscribed to the app yet. I have a Premium TRD Sport AT.

 

When out for a test drive with a ‘21 OR, I asked the salesperson about the remote start. I was told no they don’t come with one, and they dont recommend adding one because it “messes with the complex 4wd electronics.”
But if it was really important, they would add one for @ $500..
So I pressed the lock button 3x and started the truck remotely….

Yeah seriously. Is this a testament to the complete ignorance of their salespeople, or are they actively trying to sell us stuff we legitimately don't need?

 

I'm perfectly happy with it just the way it is. My Subarus and Fords that had remote starts did the same thing.

People that moan about it are just really, really petty.

In her defense, it was only her third week on the job selling cars, and I have owned 4 Tacomas.. At the dealership I specifically asked for their ‘Tacoma expert’ , most places do have one. Our test drive never happened as it ran out of gas in the parking lot while she was frantically inside looking for a dealer plate to use.. I had seen enough anyway. Someone must have sent her back outside to collect the keys , Lol…
I could tell she was visibly agitated with me as she must have thought I screwed up their only demo Tacoma because I remotely started it..

 

Same here I did not download the app cause as soon as you do and enter you VIN you are then into the free trial shit. So people if you are not willing to use your phone to start the truck then stay away from the apps.Just saying

 

You should have dropped it in 4Lo and left it like that to confirm the remote start interfered with the complex 4 wheel drive system.

 

If anyone's still following, I confirmed with Toyota corporate that my truck already had remote start. Am trying to get my money back from the dealership.
It's a '21 OR with the standard technology package.

The manager I spoke with agreed that I was misinformed by the salesperson and will issue me a refund of $499.
He was still insisting that the factory installed starter will stop working after the 1 year connected services trial runs out, unless I subscribe to it. I'm not sure if that's true, seems to be some confusion on this.

 

Did you subscribe to these connected services?if not then no worries it will still work he is just scaring you into subscribing.

 

This happens A LOT. Both my salesperson and svc dept confirmed I didn’t have remote start. Although the Svc guy didn’t bother to run my VIN, so he was useless as usual. But I absolutely do have it on my ‘21 Sport.

 

Again Tacomas made after 11/18 will still work off the key fob.
