The Ninja 650R is a two cylinder bike with less power than the 600 sportbikes. The engine displacement is slightly smaller on the 600s but puts out more horsepower. And they're 4 cylinders

ill let the odometer of my R6 speak for itself. this is my second one and when it comes to 600s, ill never own anything different!

edit: though i really can appreciate the 600rr.. its a great all around bike.. but triumph, kawi, and suzuki are just sub par to me. kawi drawing the short straw there..

For street, I'f recommend the Zx6r or cbr600rr. For the track, I'd recommend the R6! The r6, with it's 16,500 redline, is painfull to ride! No bottom end makes for a terrible "street" bike, but on the track, it's pretty sweet! We just became a triumph dealer and I can't say I'd recommend buying a 675. It goes okay but the quality level isn't up the same level as the japanese bikes. GSXRs have always had too many problems for me to ever consider owning one. Plus their resale value goes in the shitter! The 2003-2004 ZX6R is an awesome bike! It does everything well and is one of the best looking sportbikes of all time! They seem to be hard to come by in good condition!

I would go with a 750 or 1000. The 600 is good for the track but for everyday riding they like to be revved up too much. But to each their own. I went with the CBR1000RR. Same size as a 600 with a 1000cc engine. Pushing 172hp to the wheels. Not to shabby.

ive owned an 08 R6 yamaha blue which i was rear ended on, then immediately after rehab bought an 09 R6 orange with a two brothers pipe and a power commander couldnt wait to get back on the R6. the 09 with the upgrades had about as much balls as my 08, and i dont know about the most recent models havnt kept up with it much but as far as i know the 08 R6 is one of the best in the last few years. however my 09 was stolen so i bought a 2010 harley bored it out to 1200cc race tuner pipes everything flat black reversed the bars and removed the fenders to get a cafe bike bobber look. i cant take that bike out without everyone staring and complimenting, but i still miss my R6. the yamaha just has a soul to it, when your riding it doesnt just do what you tell it to, it reacts to you, homage to its track heritage. i cant comment on the triumph probably a great bike, all the big name bikes are gonna be neck and neck. theyre all great bikes.
but if i can give you any advice other than my personal testimony is that a street bike is like buying a pistol, u just have to feel it out. you have to be comfortable on it. and it just has to fit you. any bike your interested in. go find one and sit on it. if at all possible, highly unlikely, test ride it. and go with what you feel is the most comfortable for you period, hands down.

Yami R6. The new front ends are a bit ugly, I like them from 06-08.

Not to mention they are fun and nimble

What are you using it for? Track or street? My race bike (track only) is an R6. I love it and would not want to ride anything else on the track. The 06+ R6 are track BEASTS, however, for street riding, (to put it bluntly) they suck. The new (06+) R6 has a very non-linear power band and is VERY sluggish on the low end. This means that you have NO power at low RPM and it is hard for a new rider to feel when the power will come on. For example, on the track i typically always keep her abover 10K rpm...but running around on the streets, you cannot scream your engine like that (cops will be all over you). starting at a stop light, often times cars will be right there or overtake you. Now, once you get to about 8K, the front wheel lifts and you better hold on, but again, you cannot really do that on streets.

For street riding, the CBR is probably the best, a VERY linear power band so it does what you feel it should, and it has even power along the entire RPM range, so you will have good speed at low RPM.

yes cbr and gsxr are both great bikes for street riding and yamaha has a better track rep. but being a new rider you prolly wont have to analyze the bike that much. and if you get an R6 and are unhappy with the low end, because they are a hi rev bike, then you can always replace the sprocket or get a pipe and power commander. but i dont think itll really be that much of an issue. but again i say regardless of what bike is better to one rider or the other, who prefers what. and what is better here and there on paper.. one bike is gonna fit you better, and fit your physical build better. just go with what you feel comfortable on.

This is true. At the end of the day i voted for R6 becuase I love them. and for a new rider, you probably wont notice the difference. the R6 is still stupid fast. much more than you will ever need on a street. And JD is correct, if the low end really does bother you, change sprockets and you are set, you dont need 150+ mph on the street, so you will not loose anything by changing sprockets for more low end.

I hate to say this, but in the motorcycle community, GSXRs have a bit of a "sterotype" that goes along with them. Its sad becuase they are great bikes, but just know, there is a bit of a bad view that goes along them. Gixxer riders are typically THOUGHT OF (if you buy into sterotypes) as the ones that are doing wheelies down freeways, and all that stuff that makes all street bike riders look bad. again, I am not saying I agree with it, becuase I have seen my share of ducati, yamaha, and all other riders doing stupid crap, but the fact is, the sterotype is there, so be warned.
