I agree with what was posted above. Low end isn't great but when you hit 8-10,000 rpm you better be holding on. Living at altitude (6,500') doesn't help much either.

Overall I really like the bike and will either go to a newer year R6 or maybe bump to an R1. Haven't decided yet. I've taken out a friends CBR and it was nice but I liked mine better. I'm 5' 8" and either sit on both toes or one foot flat. I don't find it to be at all uncomfortable for my height but maybe I'm just used to it?

I was thinking about the fact you've said a couple times you are a big guy. I'm 180 and mine (with the +2 rear sprocket) gets up and goes just fine and cruises around town @ about 5K...Right at the start of the really meaty power.

I vote Ducati Monster. Who wants something that everyone else has plus a L twin is much better suited for in town hooliganism.

At 5'8", you're kinda limited with sportbikes unless you want to install a lowering kit IMHO. At that height, I'd say Gixxer 600 or 750. They seem to have the lowest seat heights that my vertically challenged friends can flat-foot on at stop-lights. I'm 6'1" and my R6 (2006) is too tall for most of my friends, honestly, to be comfortable on.

I used to have a Suzuki GSXR 600 and its a really good bike. I did tons of research about it and I was going between Suzuki and Yamaha. I decided to go with the GSXR and I was glad that I did. You will too.

It's more dependent on inseam length than overall height so it would be more interesting to compare the seat height (which is around 33 inches on the R6).

You can do some with regard to lowering a bike, shaving the seat or both. But the bottom line is you need to be comfortable enough that you can handle the bike and not have a tip over.

All sport bikes are bad ass, and I would base my decision more on comfort and riding style as you will not use all of the bikes performance besides the track.
I rode a GSXR 750 for years and loved it, but I will never buy another bike with such a forward sitting position. I am 6'6" though so apples to oranges for sure.

Going to look at a Super Duke 990 R on Thursday.

Agreed. At my height I have a 34" inseam.
