I actually prefer it to the other just based on sitting on it. It is more narrow like my old R6 and the new bikes are wide. I am not too tall so the narrow bikes feel better for me. I am getting a Ducati 848 Corse SE.

675s 'blowing up'? What was the catastrophic failure? You can't say they're notorious for blowing up without facts. I have 7800 miles on my 06 and never had a problem. Im a member on the 675 forums and triumphrat. Never have I've seen a thread "my bike blew up on the dyno!!!!" . Don't put a stigma on a bike without showing proof

i have friends that are at track days and have seen first hand at least 5 blown motors in the 675. I don't know exactly the issue with the motor but i won't touch a 675. From the sounds of the other guy on here doing track days, it seems fairly common. Or at least more common than the 4 Japanese bikes.

I am biased as I own a CBR but the 600RR gets my vote. Second choice would be the R6.

    I am ready for a re-design of the 1000RR.

I'm sure they means the 848. But that would be a step up more like a Gixxer 750 range.

Yeah, I work in the industry and have been involved in track instruction for more than ten years, so I'm around this all the time. I've seen at least two, personally, that grenaded on our dyno, and have seen three grenade on the track, the last one was that special edition with the blue frame. It blew a hole in the bottom of the motor even and the bike had less than 1,500 miles on it.

Ever since Triumph moved a lot of its production to Malaysia their quality has really suffered. (and it was never all that great to begin with). I owned an older sand-cast 955 triple and it was great fun while I owned it. It was a bitch to maintain. That motor had the softest valve-seats of any bike I've ever seen. The valves would be out of spec in less than 6k miles (and the valve adjust interval was 12k). My buddy had the same bike, bought at the same time. At 30k miles his motor blew up during a street ride.

    Thats the bottom of the con-rod you see there;

My bike had the same mileage, so I dumped it immediately, but he stuck with the brand and currently races a 675. His hasn't blown, but he's also replaced a lot of internal motor bits as preventative measures.

    Thats him on his 675.

I've been inside 675 motors a fair bit, and I'm not really impressed. Sorry. And I really don't know what my buddy see's in the bike either. It really doesn't do it for me and I do not think of it as having premium quality.

But, if you love it, who cares? But if you want the bike to last, stay totally on top of maintenance. Do you valve adjustments early and try not over-rev the motor. Put in uber-high quality oil, (I'd recommend Motul 300V, with the double ester - it's a crazy green color).

7,800 street miles is still low mileage IMHO, but the bikes have more problems than just marginal metallurgy, i've seen really stupid failures due to nothing more than sloppy winding (a product of Malaysian production IMHO).

But really, at the end of the day, if you love it, who gives a shit? Motorcycles, I think, are best when enjoyed from an emotional level, and not a practical one.

This right here says it all. Is there a reason i own a bike that is 13 years old, has a less than stellar suspension and is fat? There is a big emotional attachment and the grin factor is off the charts.

    Splitting hairs...

about $1,500 difference in MSRP, before negotiations.

Plus with the Ducati you get higher quality suspension, brembo mono-block brakes (higher quality) and stainless steel brake lines and a fair more hp. Mine dyno'd at 122hp. R6's get around 105hp.

I like your thinking Dave! That's why I'm getting the 848 myself. But I'm going after the Corse SE which might not be much negotiations since it is a SE. We'll see.

Hmm interesting! I guess you stand corrected! I dont think the 675 daytona is manufactured in Malaysia yet, still in the Hinckley plant. But none-the-less, quality shouldnt be sacrificed. I hope mine holds together for another 10k miles, then I'll unload it for a new Duc.

i bought a diavel 1198 ill never go back to the jap crap again....

i loved my kawi, i mean loved, but for 1000 to 1500 more you can buy a duc or an agusta or a bmw and have 10X the quality of bike

and for anyone who says the DUC has maintenance issues, i have 10k miles on mine now, serviced by a dealer every service interval and not one issue

i just replaced my front and rear tires

but if you really want a bike that needs suspension tuning to every rider, has high center of gravity, abs isnt a stock option(it may be now, idk i havent looked at the new 600's) and doesnt have a twin sound do it :D

oh it may cost more to fix that duc with plastics, but the babes think the duc is way hotter

I'm an accidental Ducati guy, I never set out to get into them, but the value for your money is hard to refute. You really get a lot more attention to detail and higher quality bits. Plus, I'm always amazed at how far Ducati will go to take care of its customers. (given you are not an ass-hat).

I have one Ducati that has over 30k miles on it. The only problem was a failed $1.99 relay and a fork seal. Ducati's have proven to be the most reliable bikes I've owned. The least reliable bike I've owned was a Honda VTR1000. Constant problems with that bike.

The key with Ducati is you can not neglect them. You must do the valve adjustments and the belts. Other than that... Ducati plastic isn't much more than Japanese plastics. It's all expensive.
