Anyone want to explain the differences between the dry and oiled filters? I'm seeing that oiled causes issues with the MAF. What other pro's/cons to getting oiled vs. dry? I live in a desert so obviously I'm leaning towards the dry filter.

Im interested to see this too. I've been using K&N oil filters in all my vehicles, from my wife's honda civic, my trans am, diesel trucks, race bikes, etc. I've not had a MAF sensor foul or malfunction due to oiling (knock on wood), and I tend to go medium/heavy on the oiling, because I'm an idiot.

Due to some overwhelming responses on these boards to the AFE P/D, I decided to go with it. The price is about the same between the two, obviously maintaining the filter will be a shade cheaper. I noticed only a slight gain, maintaining my driving conditions. Got my magnaflow muffler in today, and I'll install it this week. After a little bit of time, I'm gonna track the mileage pretty good, then pony up some cash for a K&N and do a comparison. I'll repost... although this thread is old as hell..

I have the AFE PD and do not see any better fuel economy or power.

A dry filter uses no oil to assist in catching particles and debris. Oiled filters have been known to ASSIST in messing with the MAF, the main problem is over oiling the filter or not cleaning your MAF on higher mileage ones. Pro's and Con's...a dry element is obviously less work to clean, con's it might not provide the same filtration as a oiled. Either way if you check your MAF every time you clean and oil the filter you should stay trouble free.

    I'm currently using a K&N drop-in high-flo oiled filter on my '05 w/4.0L V6. No noticable difference in performance for the V6.

However, a friend of mine has a '09 w/2.7L I4 and after he put in the same K&N filter (for his engine) he said the difference was "quite noticable". I've since read the same about the difference between the effect on the V6 & I4 mentioned repeatedly in various forums.

Been using K&N Oiled Air Filters since the earth's crust firsted cooled. Never had a problem with a MAF or any other component of the fuel induction system. I'm quite meticulous about maintenance though. I usually clean all fuel induction components (throttle body, MAF, intake, injectors, etc) every 15k. Why not, it couldn't be easier...

Regarding the secondary air filter, (which is actually a charcoal filter to prevent emissions) you can remove it if you don't live in a state where they conduct emissions testing. Otherwise this mod could cause a snag at your next inspection.

If ur getting the afe cai it will definately impact the way ur fm 40 sounds! Will be slightly deeper tone due to the increase in air volume going out the exhaust. I had a k&n drop in filter b4 and I didn't notice any difference. But I noticed a very good improvement with the afe cai over the k&n drop in. I recomend all taco owners to try the afe cai! I also have an afe pro dry s in my corolla and noticed a difference with it and it's a drop in! But the intake tube on it is pretty strait unlike the taco's restrictive intake!

After reading all the good reviews here for the Pro Dry I took the plunge. I am looking forward to getting one. I've had K&N in the past, but hated the oil. If these work as good as I hear I cant wait to get it next week.

I'm running an AEM Brute Force air intake/filter and like it. Also, they make a charcoal version that is almost a perfect match for magnetic gray.

I am currently running a stock filter. In the past I have used K&N CAI and an Airraid CAI on multiple vehicles without any problems. I am considering either a TRD or AFE CAI for my Tacoma. My experience with the oiled filter CAI's that I have used has been a noticeable seat of the pants improvement in hp and acceleration accompanied with more engine compartment noise, which sometimes can be a bit much. That is why I am considering the TRD or AFE system which has an enclosed air filter box.

Werd. (or whatever the kids are saying these days) Doesn't let the little dirt through and doesn't oil your MAF for you either.

I *believe* I saw a slight increase in mileage from it - 1-2MPG, but since too many factors changed at once, it's hard to say what effect each had. (more highway on new commute, new plugs, Amsoil Ea Air and Ea Oil filters, switched to Amsoil full synth)

    Cheers.

I currently have a stock air filter in my truck, but I'm going to switch to an Amsoil EAA Air Filter(have one at home, waiting for the stock filter to get old enough to need replacing). It's a great FILTER - keeps contaiminants out, which reduces engine wear, etc. (also a dry filter, no oiling required) and has a very long service life - 4 years or 100,000 miles, and you can clean it with an air compressor and/or shop vac.
    Worth every penny!

Hello guys I have notice a lot of members wit K&N filters that have not notice any difference on their gas mileage, but I did. I stole a OBD II GAUGE meter(ecometer)
from my wifes car and used it before changing the filter and I was getting almost 17 miles on the city, after I changed it to K&N I started getting almost 19.5 MPG.
