I have the AFE Pro Dry-S. In my 06 Camry, I have a K&N oiled- I also had one in my Durango. I haven't noticed a difference in any of these compared to stock. However, since these are "lifetime" type filters, it just makes economic sense to get one. Usually, when a manufacturer claims an increase in power, it is in max HP. Few of us use these vehicles at full throttle on a regular basis to accurately gauge the minimal-if any HP gains:). Therefore, I think those that feel more power are under the placebo effect...:)

An air filter will not improve fuel mileage on a modern fuel injected vehicle. Proved in the lab with equipment and not impression or opinion.

An air filter may or may not give a performance increase. Just because you can flow more in (which would allow you to burn more fuel=more power) does not mean you can get any extra into and out of the combustion chamber. Mods usually require multiple items, working together, to get and MEASURABLE increase in performance.

I love the comment someone made about a "butt dyno"! Awesome comment.

K&N.... in every vehicle for the last 20 years. And bikes. You treat them right and don't over-oil them and they work great. No problems on 2 Tacomas and one FJ.

I once had the K&N on mt 02 Tacoma PR, and didn't realize (at the time) that using them and off-roading just didn't mix well, as it created the worst engine "sluggishness" and oily buildup on any plastic parts in the throttle body. Therefore, I threw it away (the filter) and went back to a stock filter.

I just installed an AFE Pro dry. Had been using only OEM filters previously. Throttle response might be a little quicker, but that could just be in my head. Still too early to find out if I'm getting any mpg gains. The major draw for me was the ability to easily clean it and not having to worry about buying any more filters in the future.

Just picked up a K&N, mostly due to wanting to spend extra money on my truck:0

Gas mileage is the same but now I don't ever have to buy another air filter!!!

K&N Drop In and removed secondary air filter. Couldn't really tell if my increased throttle response was due to the filter or the fact that I changed the plugs at the same time. I do like the fact that I am finished with buying air filters.

On a side note, I had a Nissan Frontier SC and put a K&N CAI on it and there was definitely an increase in power, but absolutely no change in mpg (15 in town and 17 interstate - on a good day)

FRAM bam, son of sam. no difference in HP, my butt dyno isnt very accurate and I never floor it anyways. seems to breath a little easier, but my stock filter was jam packed with crud. jury is still out on MPG. ive been averaging 18-19, dont expect that to change much.

USE THE AFE PRO DRY! There is a reason that everybody on this site says that the aFe is the best and not to use K&N filters. I had a K&N until about a month ago when my aFe pro dry arrived. THERE IS A NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE! Smoother, quicker, more steady, throttle response, torque. I could physically feel the difference in all these categories the first time I drive it. Don't waste your time researching what type or your money on a CAI which is more than your motor needs. get the Pro Dry.

I have to disagree with the guy who said an airfilter would not effect performance.

If your MAF sensor is reading an increase in air flow, your injectors pulse will increase; therefore increasing fuel to obtain proper stociometric fuel ratio.

In simple terms, the more stuff in, the more power out. Also, if the air is cooler, then the injector pulse width will also increase because of the volume of air.

The intake on the Tacoma is already designed identical to a cold air intake; so I don't see how an aftermarket setup can increase HP.

When it comes to MPG, that is a different ball game. If you have increased airflow, you will use more gas. There is no dispute about this statement. The PCM will maintain it's stociometric fuel mixture, so in effect, your MPG will get worse.

Hahahahahahaha.... I put a new plastic retaining clip for the plastic trim on my rear bumper today and I would swear it was more responsive. Haha.
Seriously though, my engine felt like it ran better. A little smoother if anything.
