It all depends on how motivated you are, if you're motivated enough, "how hard or how tough is training?" shouldnt even be a question. its not the physical part you'll need to worry about, it's the mental part. What branch of service were you thinking?

Oh and for the guy that said that air force basic isnt physically demanding. Might wanna check that again. No it is not the hardest out there but still very difficult.

I was in the Navy, stationed at NAS Lemoore, and Camp Eggers Kabul, Afghanistan.

if i was to do it again, i would have went into the Coast Guard as a small boat would be more appealing to me than the aircraft carriers i went on.

if i couldve done it again, i probably would have too. but my "local" CG recruiter was too far away. i took the asvab with the navy but ultimately decided to go with the army.

the gave me 15k in bonus cash and told me i'd jump out of airplanes. what 17 yeaar old could say no to that?

    Just the basics
LOL. I read through the wiki about AF training. It has changed since I enlisted in the Marine Corps back in the early 90s. Back then it was only 6 weeks and physical standards were pretty easy. It has become a bit more difficult but AF boot is no where in comparison to the Corps.

    AF:
    Run(1.5 mile) Push-ups Sit-ups Pull-ups
    Liberator (minimum graduation standard) 11:57 min. 45 50 0
    Thunderbolt (honor graduate standard) 9:30 min. 55 60 5
    Warhawk (extraordinary – highest standard) 8:55 min. 65 70 10

What I find really amusing is the daily schedule which can obviously vary:
    0445 Reveille Wakeup
0500 Downstairs in formation Get ready for PT
0500-0600 Physical Training This will alternate. One day you will run, the next day you do anaerobic exercises.
    0600-0615 Breakfast
0630-0745 Dorm Setup Make beds and make sure everything is in order 0800-1130 Daily Activities Drilling, classes, records checks, shots, uniform issue, etc.
    1130–1230 Lunch
1300–1700 Classroom/dorm instruction Mail call is performed during this time
    1700–1800 Dinner
1900–2045 Set up the dorm for nighttime

    2100 Taps Lights out

An hour for lunch and dinner then almost 2hrs of setting up the dorm for nighttime. WTH does that mean?

Which individual would get you to shit your pants:

    or

Even a brief overview of a comparison between training is night and day. Before anyone thinks I'm harping on the AF know that my parents were career officers in the AF/ANG. QOL is better in the AF no doubt about that.

Here's a decent comparison if there is one. I've done 10 years USMC active and if I feel like still doing the military after I get out and finish school I would go officer in the Air Force. The USMC life is like a tornado of destruction compared to the more structured activity of the Air Force.

But if you look at what each service is for....the USMC is designed to obliterate life at a cyclic rate and the Air Force gets us and our gear, parts, combat replacements, etc to us, not to mention dropping beautiful bombs for us. We can't forget the gorgeous destruction of the spectre AC-130 Gunship, and doesn't the AF run the A-10 warthogs too? But those weapons of mass destruction are nothing without jarheads on the ground calling for CAS.

Combined arms is where its at....but putting a plane in the air is a little more complex than setting up a .50 Cal mg and letting hell fly. Air Force more complex and less physically demanding.....USMC more physically demanding but a little less complex unless you want to talk tactics. That's a different discussion. Quality of Life is definitely better in the AF vs. USMC.....but bragging rights fall with the Jarheads. The one point I would make about the USMC lifestyle is that misery loves company. This isn't negative for the USMC but when everyone is sitting in the mud/sand on post in crappy weather you make some pretty good friends that will last you for your entire lifetime.

It's what makes recruiting for marines really tough. Go ahead and tell an 18yr old young man that he's going to get shot at, catch athlete's foot, stand in formation for days of your life, learn how to March, stand post in the snow, rain, hot, sandstorms, and all this while eating a menu for 6 months that consists of 24 meals that turn your shit into solid bricks that tear through wag bags lol. Somehow though I wouldn't have traded it for the world...???
