Had to remove my passenger inner fender liner, which leaves the stock intake hole very exposed to the elements, thus I would like to swap to a CAI maybe even just a high flow and block the old hole off.
I don't care about power gains really, this is more to prevent water/dirt/mud from getting in.
What are you guys running for a CAI?

I run the aFe Power CAI, but it uses the same hole in the fender. I also added their front intake scoop but if you blocked off the fender hole I'm not sure the scoop would be enough on its own. Plan B would be to use a snorkel or reconfigure the air intake port someway.

Your stock intake is a cold air intake.

Aftermarket Cai will also use the same hole.

Love my S&B cai. I chose it because i didn't want any dirt, sand, mud getting in my filter... Works and sounds great...

I use the scoop attachment that goes towards the passenger side headlight and grille. It comes with the cai... But it also comes with a plug in case you don't want to use the scoop.

Any pics from when you removed the fender liner? Curious how exposed the intake hole is. But the S&B also has an intake hole on the fender side as well so I'm not sure....

the TRD one uses that fender inlet exclusively so it keeps warm bay air totally out. the air on the outside of the fender is preferred, but since you don't care about any performance stuff just decide where you want your air to come from. i want mine from outside the bay, so I'm using the TRD CAI. i actually got it just for extra sound to help guide my shifting.

There is no reason to get a CAI for a truck like this. Intake Air temp is only slightly above ambient usually. This is measured with ScanGauge.

And I feel that you reduce water resistance by changing away from stock or increase water resistance by putting a snorkel on it.

like i mentioned above, i got it for an extra bit of intake sound to help guide my shifts in a MT. that's a reason right there.

I like the extra sound as well but also like the improved throttle response. It's only really noticeable when I'm at WOT, flooring it to pass or from a dead stop. But then it shines.

Ok, CAI is not what I'm looking for then. I want to block off the OEM fender hole. Maybe a K&N short ram style would be best..

This is what I am trying to eliminate:
