TRD/AFE intakes are the only ones I know of that are proven to not affect the Air Fuel ratio, per MR. Gadget from URD

These trucks already have a cold air intake (look in front of pass. side inner fender) there is a vent there. Thats where the intake draws air from. Most so-called "cold air intakes" have a cone filter and draw air from a hot engine bay. Also they do not filter as well as a paper filter (for the most part). The filters that are oil soaked are even worse.
    A. They are cotton and have small holes in them that let dirt and dust in.
    B. The oil itself can be sucked out of the filter and onto the MAF sensor.
So what then happens, the MAF gets dirty, or senses there is more air coming in, this then screws up the O2 sensors (4 on the v6 trucks). Next your check enjine light or maint reqd. light comes on. You then must:
    A. Clean the intake which is dirty from the oil or excess dust.
    B. Clean the MAF same reasons as above.
    C. Trace and find which O2 sensors are shot.
    D. O2 sensors are not cheap.

All this being said, there are exceptions to the rule. Some guys have them and have no probs. Id say don't believe the hype. An intake is not a supercharger. It does not force air into the motor. The engine sucks in what it needs. It makes the engine sound good, but thats about it. The intake design on these engines is very good and efficient. put the extra $ some place else. Check out Downey Offroad's writeup on this subject. Or do what you like its your Tacoma!

I had a K&N CAI on my 06 for about 3k miles. I hate dthe fact that it wasn't protected form the elements at all. Even with a drycharger on it I still didn't feel good about it. I then got a TRD and have never regretted it. You don't get a bunch of extra power with any of em, the engine just breathes easier.
Oh Ya, I think Banks just came out with a ram air intake for the Taco.

dont have a pic yet but the red hose thats on the intake a ran out into the stock intake spot. you can you anything really just as long as its snug. some guy on here used a small tractor tire tube to close the gap. ill get a pic up as soon as it hits double digits here in pa. its a warm 4 right now.

With the 2.7l four cylinder which would be better? And where in the intake is the secondary filter, if any, for the 2.7? My vehicle is somewhere else this week or I would run outside and look.

Anyone with a dyno sheet? All these folks thinking they got some huge gain over stock need to provide a dyno sheet or it's just opinion. Only one I've seen is from URD and that was actually a large gain in HP. The rest, I see nothing in them that is any better than stock other than a smooth tube so unless you can provide a dyno sheet, I call BS.

In what way? Definitely not in filtering capability. That has been proven time and again.
