Toyota super long life pink coolant. Xerex and Beck Arnley make it aftermarket. I’m sure others do too.

That’s the older Toyota coolant from the nineties. Not the same. My 98 Corolla used that.

what would happen if you emptied the system and switched to European pink stuff

    Audi/VW/Mercedes?/Porsche G13

they use similar metals. Iron or aluminum blocks, aluminum heads, etc.

This has been my question recently, and the rabbit holes only make it more convoluted. Someone has even posted a .pdf of a service announcement from Toyota about how to handle it, and then, the arguments still continue back and forth.

A simple question though, in the end:

2000 Tacoma with a 5 year old radiator with the red long life coolant.
The thermostat was replaced and it looks like they didnt feel the need to add more coolant, so the reservoir is below L when cold.
I'd like to fill it back up to between L and F like it has always been.

Can I add the pink- prediluted Super Long Life to bring that level up a little? Which means mixing the two types.
Or do I need to buy the red -long life and distilled water to top it off?

Some say yes, the two types can be mixed, some say no it is forbidden to mix or else you'll destroy your engine.

Just curious if anyone here has any legit real life experience with this.

:facepalm:this same thing with coolant in another brand of vehicle I drive....SUPPOSEDLY, mixing the old and new makes it turn into jelly...and not conducive to working effectively.
I made sure to get the correct juice.

Yeah that was the info that was most troublesome. Even if adding 500mL? Crazy.

That sounds like an artifact from the GM dexcool old wives tale era. That problem was due to gasket material and system air intrusion, and not related to the coolant. (Ford even spec'd dexcool for their own vehicles starting around 2010 but I think switched back to yellow (Zerex G05, a hybrid OAT formula) in 2019).

If you are a detail-minded person, you can mix whatever coolants you want to mix if you do the research, but for 99% of vehicle owners it's just less brain stress to stick with the factory color/spec.

Well the LL and SLL have different chemicals, so, it's related to the coolant.

At work, the factory started using dexcool. Told us nothing about it, or the consequences of mixing. So a few engines got mucked up with cottage cheese goop.
