Ive been looking into an exhaust for my tacoma.. I have the S&b intake installed with the AFE silver bullet throttle body spacer.. I feel like its missing an exhaust. I don't want the exhaust for sound, I want it for a smoother throttle and performance. However I still want a nice sound to the truck I don't want a raspy exhaust but also don't want a super loud one either

any suggestions guys? Been watching YouTube and its kind of between the AFE or the Carven..

    Would appreciate your feedback

Did you tune your mapping or you are just throwing stuff under the truck? You know there’s no actual performance gains out of this things aside from a little louder sounds? I don’t run exhaust because I got tired of all that stuff back in the rotary/honda days. Again, I’m not hating, just pitching my 2 cents so you can get the best out of your truck. Cheers!

Try to find a URD spec U. It is a true catback that replaces everything from the primary cats back and has a re-routed y-pipe for extra clearance. Sounds great too.

You're not gonna get any performance gains. Noticeable, at least.

Having said that, I've got an 18" straight-thru magnaflow dumped over the axle that i really like.

Ya I know man.. lol I purchased the intake first week I bought the truck just because I was shop happy online..

I have been wanting to just put the stock airbox back on and calling it a day..

I know without a tune, none of these upgrades do anything.. IT even may slow down the car more if not tuned from my understanding..

Ya Also since I lifted the truck, I got OME leaf springs in the back, I have read that any exhaust I buy will come in the way of the leaf springs when off roading.. I definilty don't want that

I don't think that's a thing. And if it is for some reason, chop the tip and do an axle dump.

People are so quick to chime in with their two cents on why NOT to do these types of upgrades. Let me give you mine.
I have an AFE stage 2 intake (pro dry filter) with a TRD exhaust on my 2.5 gen.
I also have an ARB bumper on the front of my truck. I still average 18/19 city mpg and I drive with more than a little gettyup . I haven’t tuned my truck, but maybe one of these naysayers can chime in on why I’m still getting stock to better, mpg feedback, on a truck that has an additional 200 lbs in the front as well as larger than stock tires. These mods haven’t turned my Tacoma into speed demon by any means but they have helped in other real world applications and in my experience provide an observable and much appreciated function. As to the icing on the cake, I also like the way both sound, as well as hearing my shift points with more clarity.
Spend your money how you want, and there are plenty of good threads on aftermarket exhaust systems on TW. You should find that sweet spot that you’re looking for in regards to function and sound.

ya lol. I agree. I’m not looking to race this thing. I just feel like with the lift and bigger heavier rims and tires. The truck needs that little boost

I get about 14 mpg hwy and 12 on street.

I don’t drive slow but I don’t drive fast either.
Just want that little extra boost if possible without having to tune or remap the car

I’m thinking of going with the afe exhaust

i just saw a video on YouTube. And when the car is on the lift and the tire is fully extended, it’s really pushing the exhaust down. I’m sure there are ways to correct this

Im all about modifying and having fun with the truck, but you and I know that some individuals spend money(which is completely fine) on stuff that sometimes is not going to deliver what they were looking for. When it comes to your mpg’s it’s awesome that you’re still on good numbers, I do too because I am rolling on 265/76R16, my air filter and oil is properly serviced and I’m still under my payload capacity and haven’t impaired the aero(if you can call it that lol) of the truck. Cheers!

I think you should go for it, and since you’re wanting a bit of a boost, a tune (calibrated with your intake and exhaust) is probably your best bet. I don’t don’t think either by themselves or together for that matter will give you the boost you’re looking for. A tune and/or super charger is recommended for any noticeable difference in HP/torque improvements and acceleration along with over all speed related improvements.

AWE just came out with a true dual exhaust that has my eye. It's pricey though....

That said, I love my Borla type S :)
It doesn't drone at all and has a nice deep tone. Not much performance even with that and the TRD intake though.
Best thing I've done for performance is the OVTune. Lighter wheels are next for me.

Here is my experience with exhausts.

Got a used magnaflow exhaust for 50$ (only reason I tried it) Sounded good at idle, not too loud but on throttle got really loud and raspy. Took it off after one road trip.

Then found a used TRD exhaust (what I wanted from the start) and I love it. Slightly louder but no drone, no rasp, just a better looking and slightly louder exhaust. Had it on my last truck for a year, switched it to my new truck that I got a year ago and still love it. Absolutely the only exhaust I would put on a 3rd gen.

Next door neighbor also has a 3rd gen, started with Borla, thought it was too loud and sounded horrible so he then got a Carven exhaust. He liked it a lot more, said it sounded better but was insanely loud.

Yeah, those intake mods the op did are worthless, except for more intake noise (Mental HP). As far as those aftermarket exhaust's, I like that they're ss, but boy do they make a v6, or inline 4 sound like chit. The TRD is execeptable imo.

Unfortunately an aftermarket exhaust will net you zero performance gains, just noise.

You could get URD y-pipe which will actually improve performance.
