would like to hardwire and mount in a great spot, not on the windshield. might have to pioneer this one myself.

Garmin GPSMap60Cx. Bought it mainly for offroad but it got me around Philadelphia pretty well a few weeks ago. The expandable ones are nice since you can just swap the chip to change from a city map to detailed topo, and the POI is in the map data.

Drawback with Garmin is that you have to buy their maps, and the handled unit I got isn't ideal for mostly on-road nav since it's taller and narrower (still works ok for text directions), but it runs on standard batteries so it's easy to keep running outside the truck if needed.

For in-town and traffic I just use the google maps app on my phone, but it doesn't track the directions in real-time and kills the phone battery by keeping a couple different kinds of connections open full-time.

Hey your the second guy I know that uses Navigon. I called them to get some info and they said they were only in europe now...not sure you knew that!!!!

I use a 1340T(?) (Don't lose the power cable/ant they are about a hundred bucks to replace) and love it. It's a big screen and I'm an old guy so I like the bigger pics to make my selection. Make sure if you buy one you get the black tie warranty (best buy). I've had to replace three of my garmins due to failure of one sort or another. Maybe I'm just hard on them. Use a bean bag on the dash to mount it.
