It seems like more and more people are gravitating towards all these new one unit canopy campers but are they really better than having a separate canopy and RTT?

Some of the benefits with going with a separate RTT and a canopy include the easier ability to remove the RTT and canopy to be able to use the bed for hauling things. Can also just remove the RTT when not camping for better MPG and less drag and wind noise and still have the canopy to haul things and keep things secure. Can upgrade just the RTT if something new and better comes along. And there are a lot more choices in both canopies and RTT's and without the very long lead times the canopy campers have.

I see the main benefit of a canopy camper is that it gives you the ability to stand up in the bed. There is also no ladder to climb and store. And can also be lighter as one unit.

A canopy and RTT may not have the cool look at me factor of a canopy camper but if you seriously use your truck as a truck I think the canopy and RTT route seems to be the better option. But if you don't need the use of your bed for anything other than camping then maybe a canopy camper could be the way to go. What do you guys think?
