Wow. I never realized how small our trucks are compared to the third gens. I guess they call them compact trucks for a reason.

I think you mean Fremont. NUMMI used to be in Fremont, CA until they went belly up in 2010. Production then shifted to San Antonio, Texas and Tijuana, Mexico. I drive by their old factory all the time. Toyota produced the Tacoma there from 1995-2010. It's nice and shiny now after Tesla took over.

I highly recommend you guys check out the story This American Life did on NUMMI and the GM/Toyota joint venture. Basically GM quality was terrible and Toyota came in to show them how the Japanese did it. The reason why Toyota (and Japanese cars & technology) is so reliable is because they have a different mindset than we do. They actually care and take pride in the product they produced.

I have a 2000 and a 2007. The 2000 is about to hit 300k. I had to do the heads on it six months ago. When I had the heads off and checked the cylinder walls there was no lip at the top of the cylinder head. Every other motor that I have worked on has had a small lip up there. That lip is dew to wear on the cylinder walls. Not on this 2.7l 4 banger. I don't know what blend of steel Toyota use but it's meant to last for ever. I haven't had to disassemble my 07 to compare to but I hope it's the same.

I like that statement and I have to agree with you. I have spent my whole life growing up looking forward to the day that I could buy myself a brand spanking new rig, and now that I can I still haven't. Ive yet to own a vehicle from this century even haha I just have a hard to believing the quality is still there. Even with Toyota. I almost pulled the trigger on the 3rd gen a few months back but decided to buy an old 1st gen. My gf gives me shit all the time for it but a friend of mine bought a 2016 last year and seeing all the bullshit he goes through at the dealer, in every other week for this and that its a pain in the ass.

Since ive never actually owned a newer vehicle I cant really justify it but I still like to pretend im an old man and say things like "THEY DONT BUILD EM LIKE THEY USED TO!" hahaha

My family has a beat to shit 97 sr5 4x4.. I drove it in high school and my dad drives it now as a daily. The odo reads 243,000 and it stopped working in 2008!

I've got 47,800 in my 2015 and I need it to go 500,000.. I feel like it can, with synthetic oil, factory filters and maybe a chain and guides of needed

I own an 2nd gen and my buddy has a 1st. I wouldn't hesitate to take either on a road trip or expedition. Across the desert.

The 2nd gen has more room but there is something about the 1st gen. I know I don't want a turd gen but going back and doing it over, it's still tough
