Don't let people suck you in here. You can get a nice Bilstein 5100 lift with coil springs and an AAL and get decent offroad performance and good regular driving manners. You won't need UCAs probably (maybe but not lower than a 3" lift) and will still be able to get it in alignment with that setup. You could buy that from Headstrong Offroad. I have been using that setup for 20k and no problems getting out to trout streams and trails and still rides nice. $700 in parts and maybe $500 if you don't want to install yourself. Mid-travels are awesome for some serious abuse but if it is just lightly used, you can get by for far less than $2000.

A leveling kit. Pretty much a spacer.

That or you don't like the stock suspension replace it with coil overs, which typically leads one to shell out more coin.

Edit: sorry thought you said stock height.

But if that's the case there is none. It's a relative question...

Depends how much you want to spend, what you want to replace, and what components you think you need.

Lower end - bilstein, rancho, spacer lifts
    Mid tier - OME, toytec
High end - King, Icon, Fox, ADS

If you're already looking to shell out the coin, then may as well do it right the first time. IMO, Icon is the lower level of the big three. This is a complete kit for less than two grand and will ride smooth as butter. I went the 5100s/OME 885s route for ~$700 and it was just fine, but I only did that because of budget. It rode just fine, but not GREAT.

EDIT: Oh shit nevermind. I didn't realize that FOX was as inexpensive as it is. Get this with the HS 3-leaf AAL and you're only at $1100

Ok. Till your truck flips on its side and you have to ask the TW community if it's totaled, what to do with insurance and pretty much idict yourself because you don't have a sway bar... But go ahead lmao.

Haha hey @ArcherTaco! Bugging people is my living! I'm glad I did too. Just trying to sift through the vast amount of info out there for the Tacoma before I make a final decision.

I ran no sway bar on a second get for about 2 years. I think you be surprised at how little roll there is.
I was more disagreeing with being to scared to off-road a 35k truck.
I get being to scared to off-road a 100k rangerover, but a pick up? Cmon.

Edit: Sorry op, I'm going to stop arguing sorry for the mini thread hijack

Where'd you buy the dakars? Does the back kick like a horse when going over speed bumps?

I currently have blocks but have been using it like a real truck lately and need to switch it up in the rear. These dakar's seem to be able to take a load larger than Kim Kardasian.

i got about 3 inch in front with the back being about 1 inch higher. The front suspension is adjustable for compression and rebound so you can adjust it to your liking.
My overall ride is smoother then stock. The truck is my daily commuter to work. Most highway and city streets.

Surprisingly they kick like a horse when going over bumps and it's nice to be able to haul some heavy stuff in the bed with them!

How heavy have you hauled? I put over 800 lbs in the back and the stock leaf springs looked like they were about to bend and snap!

The term "scared" to off road a $35k truck was never used so there goes your argument.

Good suggestion - however, keep in mind, the cost of that fox kit is on par with the cost of a full OME kit, which he was looking into in the first place

That picture of the firewood that I posted was probably around 1200 lbs and with the air bags it don't sag one bit!

It's great that everyone is throwing the top brands at this Op.

But Op said he is new to this & sounds like he pretty much wants to run logging roads.

    Also it's his daily driver.

Spending 2500 bucks on a lift for your first new truck. I am thinking you're probably not going to beat on it what so ever. Therefore I doubt kings are needed let alone anything over an icon stage 2.

Get some 5100's set it for 1.55 inches, have you alignment fall within specs, skip the T/C or SPC upper control arms.

Take the remaining 1900 bucks and go buy some nice wheels / tires and call it a day.

If you still own the truck in 2-3 years reinvest and upgrade suspension then and re fall in love with your truck.

Saying to this guy do it once right the first time to a guy just getting into this sounds a bit excessive.

Btw 5100s, stock tires at the moment, just put the lift in last week. I take mine off-road, I just don't need to do Mach-stupid on logging roads in BC. Lots of dirt bikers sharing those same roads, and it doesn't end well for the bikers.
