Ok so I was looking around and was thinking the ICON Stage two was looking pretty tempting. It's not crazy stupid expensive but sounds good. One question because I'm a noob.... what is the benefit of getting extended front shocks and new UCA's like in the Stage 3+? Just better/more suspension travel?

what do you plan on doing with it?

Are you just looking for aesthetics?
Boss and OME will be fine for that, I'd suggest OME.

For off road, OME BP 51 are supposed to be pretty good, otherwise Icon, Fox, King are all well known and some of the best

Yes. You just answered your own question. However with aftermarket UCAs you can get a more perfect alignment that you can't with the stock ones and an upgraded suspension.

Thanks man, pretty much spot on for what I'm doing. That's a great idea and kind of what I was thinking. Not doing anything crazy but would like to get something of good quality that I won't be cussing the entire time I have it. Great looking truck too!

I had 5100s on my Ford before I bought this and wasn't crazy about the ride but it didn't bother me too much

Yes, but keep in mind that the Fox's ride will be far superior to the OME. The OME shocks can ride rough, as well as the Dakars (which also squeak).

except many often do this then after realize they aren't happy then go upgrade some more. In which it was a waste of money.

I guess it depends what you want to do. I didn't waste time with a toytec lift etc and just got a Fox kit since I know what I want to do and its a waste of money to do other shit first only to not be satisfied and want more.

He could get BP51s. Not enough info out there on their ride performance.

Here is mine, it's a 17 SR5 with the following lift and price. Just to give you an idea.

Front is 2nd gen 5100's set at 0 with OME 887 spring's and SPC UCA's.

Rear is deaver AAL with standard 5100's

This was $1135 shipped with the coilovers allready assembled.

    Wheel and tire specs.

    Wheel's are Vision 398 Manx 17x8.5 0 offset 4.5 BS

    Tire's KO2's 275/70/17

    Wheel's and Tire's were $1340 shipped.

I did all the labor myself except the alignment which was another $120

You don't need to go crazy to have a decent lift that perform's good.

Call Marie at Headstrong offroad, very knowledgeable and great customer service.

    None :-((. Yet :-))
I've got the toytech 2.5 with total chaos UCAs, and have no real complaints. It's really a pretty robust set up, which performs better the harder it is pushed. I came over from a Gen 2 taco, and I somehow feel Toytech got a lot more love on the Gen 2 trucks then the Gen 3. I may perhaps have opted for a King set up, only to get the 700lb coils up front, which I feel may be beneficial by the time I'm done adding the plate bumper and winch. I live in New england and not Moab, and feel this lift works well for the terrain I encounter most frequently. I should add that my truck is being set up more for overlanding then wheeling. I do most of my hardcore off road on two wheels.

Where'd you get the lift from, and how is the ride compared to stock?

What did you go for in the rear...AAL? I have the 2.0 kit coming in soon with rear reservoirs and UCAs and am a bit unsure how high in the front I want to go. I think they are set for 1.5" of lift, but I went with the 2" AAL in the back.

You can buy bilsteins from pretty much anyone online or in person.

I got the 3rd gen Tacoma version part numbers listed below in photo. CAD prices listed. However I went through 4wheel parts, cause I know the guy there, & it was Boxing Day sale. $710 taxes in or like $50 American. Got a 1 inch block as well because dakars squeak, and like the silience that the stock leaf springs give me at the moment. Once that changes I'll upgrade.

Rides better than stock. Turns better than stock. Best quality shocks in the world nope, but they sure kill the $10 hitachi ones that came with the truck.

Ya, I figured it out after I asked the question. Looks like toy tech has a pretty decent price on them. I think Im gonna go the same route you did. I am like you, I don't go blasting through the desert like its the Baja 1000. Im more into overland traveling.

to those that posted the link for the fox setup for around 1k. thanks for that.

thinking max 2" setup, but this shouldn't require any of the AAL options correct? she just wants a mild 1-2" lift for around town winter snow and tame back roads to hunting spots.

You'll need an AAL if you want to lift the rear. The shocks dont provide any lift out back. Front coilovers are good for anything between 0-2" of lift.

Big difference between that kit and the more pricey ones is 2.0 vs 2.5 diameter. They are skinnier and as a result hold less fluid.
