From what I was told at "another' toyota stealership, you have to buy the WHOLE LCA to upgrade the lower ball joints...?

Pretty sure that is correct. I went with Moog, 2 years and running strong.

The best quality Napa ball joints are made by a company named Spicer that makes some high quality stuff. If you go with Napa, those are the ones to buy.

You can just replace the LBJs but pretty sure that a press is needed. If a press is needed then I'd guess you need to remove the LCA to do it. Not sure if there is a hand tool to do this.

LBJ bolts to the LCA and is "pressed" into the spindle.

You can replace just the ball joint.
You can rent a press for free at auto zone.

    Looks pretty easy...
