Does anyone know diff size of the 2022 SR5 trail edition? Is it 8.8” because it now comes with the rear locker? I don’t see anywhere the 8.0” diff having/fitting a locker

All 2016+ with a locker or a manual transmission have 8.8"
Only automatics without a locker have 8.0"

    Hey Jeff,

Mind if I ask how you sourced this info? It seems there's some conflicting info out there, as this chart shows the L4 to use the 8.75/8.8" rear diff.

For context, I'm currently trying to investigate the capability to use the L4 6AT 4.30 rear diff gears/housing with an aftermarket LSD/locking carrier in my V8 T4R, and the L4 6AT 4.30 seems like it could be the answer for a simpler job by simply swapping the carrier and pinion flange to T4R parts, but I want to investigate any info discrepancies before buying parts.

    That chart is bunk.

My information is from the Toyota parts catalog and New Car Features books.

Only the manual transmission and/or locker rear diffs are 8.8” on the 2016-2023 Tacoma. All others are 8.0”.

Hmmmm, I've got a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 1GRFE (V6) AT 4-door crew-cab with 6ft bed. It doesn't seem to match the information provided here, so maybe someone can tell me whats up. I bought the truck used in 2012, so its possible some things were changed before I got it.
The discrepancy is in the available rear differential options. My truck has the TRD off-road package... supposedly. But from what I have gathered here in this forum, the TRD OR package only comes with the locking rear differential on V6 models with auto trans. However, mine has the 8.0" rear diff with mechanical limited slip. And indeed the sticker in the driver door area shows "A06C", indicating 8" ring gear, 4.3:1 ratio, and limited slip.
So what do y'all think is going on here? Most likely, I'm thinking it is NOT a TRD-off road, and previous owner just slapped some TRD OR stickers and skid-plates on there. But my truck does have the factory 2.5" lift, transfer case skid plate, and front skid-plate: all of which only come on the TRD OR (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). I know the Pre-runner has some of those, but its 2WD. Are there any other extras only available on TRD OR models? I would like to get this mystery figured out and any features that my truck should have that it maybe doesn't will help me identify if it is TRD OR, or a base model with some extra stickers.
Does the VIN indicate if it is TRD OR or not?

Edit: I found this thread while searching info on differentials. I didn't notice that it was in the 3rd gen category, which my truck is not, until after I posted. However, I will leave my post here, since it is relevant to the information provided in this thread.

If I had to guess, I’d say most likely your truck isn’t a TRD Off-Road.

Didn't they not even offer a crew cab 6ft bed off-road for 2nd gens? ...or maybe just early 2nd gens?
