I have a buddy that has a 89 pickup 3.0 auto 4x4 ex. cab, that has a cracked cylinder. great body and interior, just needs a motor. he said hell sell it for 500 bucks. my question is if i do buy it what motor should i put in it?? i know the 3.0's have the head gasket problem, but ive always like them. now as far as jdm and all that stuff i dunno much about the supra motors and what not, so my question is, what motor if different than the 3.0 will line up with trans and transfer case with least amount of headache? i would perfer the 3.4 or maybe somethin else. i know a lot of people have alreday done this so im looking for ideas and advice, he said hes prob going to scrap it by next week cause he doesnt want the headache or parting it out and neither do i. so i dont have a lot of time to make a decision. Thanks!

I still vote LS1, there is tons of aftermarket support, the blocks are a dime a dozen on CL and they are reliable as F#$%. Not saying a 3.4 isn't which we all know can hit 250k easy with proper maintenance.
