Well now Toddco says the M8000 is backordered til the 9th. I wanted to run Hollister next weekend and have the winch for that so now I'm second guessing ordering the M8000-S instead. Hmmm...

Question: Can the cable sliding plate (no idea what it is actually called) be changed on the super winches? I like the winch, not the blue plate.

It is called a Hawse fairlead. I am sure that it can be changed.

Are you asking if I can ship just the solenoid or if it can be removed and relocated off the winch?

Yes it's a HAWSE fairlead and I'm pretty sure it can be changed to whatever you want as long as the bolt pattern ins correct. If the winch comes with the rope threaded through the fairlead you woud need to unspool it and remove the line from the drum, switch the fairleads and reinstall it. Unless your hook or thimble is removable from the line and the eye can fit through the fairlead. I didn't want the Superwinch blue plate or the bling chrome Warn one either. Besides the reliability, support and rep pf the Warn thats another reason I went with the Toddco Warn/Viking package-it was exactly what I wanted at once for a good deal. Nice thimbles and fairleads are expensive!

He wants to know if it can be remote located for protection and to be sure winch fits in bumper.

I believe so but I would have to verify on one of our instock ones before I can give you a for sure answer unless TJM can answer that for us

While I'm waiting for my winch to arrive I'm shopping for my other recovery gear. Im debating a chain vs. rock strap. The strap is expensive but is much lighter and compact than chain. What are your opinions on this?

Viking rigging/rock line and thimble isolator. Kind of wish I got 20' instead of 10'. Oh well. ARB winch line extension strap. I just realized this is rated for 9900lbs. I'm not sure this is sufficient for what I had in mind, which is one of the times I would need this the most: when I'm using a snatch block with a 8000lb winch, which could in theory result in 16000lb pull.

    Edit: I'm returning 9900lb strap for 17500lb

Only buy a strap rated for the truck

Do not buy any bigger, 8000lb is more than sufficient

Why break the truck, break the strap

I already ordered the 175000lb and am in the process of returning the 9900. I think the tree trap, rock strap or something else would fail before the extension line. then again Those are things I would rather keep than the extension line. I was just thinking that in the event I need a snatch block, but the snatch doubled distance is longer than 40', my winch line will be too short. Granted, it its spooled out all the way, it won't be even close to 8000lb of force. But as it spools in, it may reach that toward the end, which could result in force 9900<. I'm not experienced with this though, so is my thinking flawed?

I have both of these winch extension ropes in front of me now, and the 17500 lb is about twice as big heavy and bulky as the 9900lb. I'm really not sure which one to keep and which to return.

Anyone else have opinions and experience with this?

    I have to totally disagree.

I have been on runs where a Tacoma required (2) snatch blocks to even slightly move the truck it was so badly sucked into mud.

Ill keep my 30k straps and my head, arms, torso attached to my body. I sure as hell would rather my truck break and send the line forward then the strap around the tree or in front of me break and send it into my head.

I almost killed a guy when I was younger and less wise when my strap broke and sent the shackle through a friends Jeep window and crushed his roof sheet metal missing his skull by mere inches. I learned from those experiences with weak straps.

so far-Spyder ind headache rack; but there will be lots more to come
so if i may break in on your thread here, i have been winch shopping myself, but i dont "off road" (on purpose) i need a winch for work such as log sections , game retrieval etc. so it wont be used very often, save cutting firewood, and hunting seasons. but i want something with a large spool...does synthetic mean you can hold more line? and does synthetic last longer? also thinking wireless could be handy...i get heavy discounts on warn products at work. sure would be a shame to get stuck and not be able to winch myself out though...
