I hate that I am torn on oil as it probably doesn't make much difference. Any oil will probably let our trucks run for longer than we will care to drive them. I am leaning towards Pennzoil Platinum because many say that it makes their engine run smooth and quiet and it is a little cheaper. Not very scientific but that's all I've got.

Advanced Fuel Economy. Someone else said that The Toyota oil is Mobil. So both are probably in the same ball park

Went to get first oil change for my truck which is the 2016 Tacoma V6 TRD sport 4x2 version, dealership wouldn't change it. Said it was good for 10,000 miles. If I had the 4x4 version they would change it but not the 4x2. Called a different dealership told me the same thing. They won't change oil until 10,000 miles on 4x2.

Just trying to convince my husband to do that! Service guy at dealership told me and my husband, I would just be wasting my money. It was posted on there board, Tacomas 4x2 don't need oil change until 10,000 miles. Said if anything goes wrong with it, Toyota warranties it.

Forget that 10k, I'm changing mine every 5 and doing it myself. Toyota cannot void your warranty cause you did your own oil changes!!

I had my dealership change mine at 1200 miles. I fully intended to pay for it but they said it was covered as one of my free changes. My next change will be according to the book in six months likely at 3000 Miles.

Suggest to look at your owners manual under oil requirements and specifications. For me you can't go wrong with any brand of synthetic motor oil. I go with the Walmart brand, convenient and at very good price $17.50 the last time I checked. http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a53/1266801/

So I purchased 5, 5 Quart bottles of Penzoil 0w-20 Full Synthetic oil from Walmart for $22.46 per 5 Quart bottle. Figures it will get me thru 4 oil changes at about $28 a change! Couldn't pass it up. I got 2500 on the truck now and I'm going to swing by the dealership and get a oil filter today and change the oil just for piece of mind tomorrow!

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
That's good oil, according to BITOG and other sites that do regular used oil analysis on their cars, that and Pennzoil Ultra are the top off the shelf brands there are right now to buy. I run that in the 5W30 flavor in my truck and it made a pretty big difference in how it starts, sounds, and idles compared to Mobil 1 that I used to use. The thing I like best about the natural gas based oil they use is that it's pure and clean as water when they start out and can be engineered to a variety of oil weights and it never shears down over time like other oils do because of this. For example, a 5W30 will typically shear down to a 5W20 over time with other oils. Not the case with Pennzoil's line of natural gas synthetic oils and I really like that personally.

First time post and first time Toyota owner. Just got my 15000 mile service and they give me an oil filter and oil drain plug washer to take home as I wont let them change my oil. The first time they asked me which oil I used (Mobil 1 full synthetic) now they don't even ask. They still have to record that they changed the oil so they can get paid by Toyota. As far as I know the only service they r doing is rotating my tires.

Previously had a 07 chevy and when the dealer did the first free oil change, they over-filled the oil, and it never ran right after that.

Feel much better knowing nobody is touching my oil. They cant give you oil either, they pump it from a main tank to the service area.

Been getting a lot of good info from the forum here and its great, thanks for the time y'all have put in here, Merry Christmas

    Mobil 1 5w30 for my 2008 4.0 every 5k. That's 27 oil changes so far. At 137k, it doesn't burn/leak a drop between changes.

I use Castrol 5w30 full synth every 5k in my 2014 Volvo S60 even though the schedule calls for oil changes every 10k. 4 oil changes thus far. Volvo pays for changes every 10k for 5 years or 50k. I pay for the ones in between.
