Which "3 places" are you referring to? Window sticker, EPA, website, Instrument cluster readout, trip info? Details mano_O

p.s never trust the computer. Fill up a tank and calculate yourself.

one is average since you started the engine, one is average over tank. the one on center screen is average since you last pressed "update".

I see 2 in the instrument cluster. One you can see by just scrolling through and the last one is when I shut the engine off.

I do know one thing which is saying alot. When it warns you your low on gas the amount it shows is accurate. I got mine down to 2 gal. and it took just a tiny bit over 21 gallons to fill it back up.

Yes the one you see when scrolling through is the tank average, the one on shut off is since the engine was started. Enjoy!

My MPG readings were pretty much spot on (when I was stock), at least according to fuelly.

What? I've driven 20 miles past it saying 0 miles remaining and didn't even get 20 gallons in it... I usually fill up close to 0 miles remaining and it takes 18 gallons or so.

In general they have it set up such that you have anywhere from 1-3 gallons left when it says 0 miles remaining.. varies depending on make and model.

    Thanks Doggman
I made a typo in that post. It said I could go 2 miles. I only done this 1 time. I still dont trust these electronics. I wont push it that close again. I have a gas station 200 yds from my house.

Wait, you missed my point. Tacomas can still go like 40+ miles after it says 0 miles remaining. Your scenario contrasts everything I've experienced and read regarding "distance to empty" calculators both on Tacomas and all other cars. I personally have gone over 20 miles after it has said 0 miles remaining and only managed to get 19 gallons and change back in it. I also fill up at "0 miles remaining" all the time and it usually takes 18 gallons.

Your 21+ gallon fill up with it saying 2 miles remaining is unusual. That's why I questioned it.

I understand what you are saying and ty. All I know is what happened that 1 time maybe my trucks electronics are not right or maybe me.
All the trucks I have had in the past say empty but there are still some gas in there. I was checking to see if I could trust what it was saying.
So you have helped me and thank you for that.I will test it again (and bring some gas in a can) to see what happens.

I had a 78 Chevy LUV once, my first truck and I had a short in the electrical system I could not track it down so I got a whole wire harness and changed it out. It fixed it except the fuel sensor was different so I had no gas gauge for years. I new the truck very well and how far I could go. Never did run out of gas but I did keep some in a jug with me.

Trust is the issue for me right now. I dont care how new it is the truck must earn my trust. Considering all the problems some people are having it must earn my trust. I hope to go on a long road trip and dont want to have any problems. This is Toyota number 7 for me and every one of them I done the trust test.
    So far so good.

My bad for bringing this back up... I've noticed when I fill up to the very top, I used to average between 310 to 325 miles to empty and lately when I fill up the max I get is between 260 and 285 miles to empty as in the tank won't take as much girl as it used to... Has anyone had this happened?
