The hood/bug deflector has been neglected and needs a makeover. What product would you recommend to bring back it's shine? Plastx by hand didn't do the trick....

Oxidized plastic is usually the cause of those things getting dull. I would use a light to no abrasive polish to remove the oxidized surface and bring the shine back. You should start by going at it by hand, and if that doesn't work, try using the polish with a polisher. If you don't have a polisher, an alternative to that would be to use a Mother's Powerball. After you are done, you'll need to protect it on a regular basis just like you do with your paint or it will fade/oxidize again. Only this time it will come back faster.

I have used this stuff for years - might do the job for your need. Liquid Lustre was one of the original Infomercial products of the 90s - as a wax it's average. But, it will take out light scratches in paint, remover tar and dried bugs - and it will even remove paint residue from someone opening their door into yours or rubbing their car against your bumper.

I just put a new WeatherTech bug deflector on my truck and it arrived with some light scratches and several spots where it had some surface cloudiness - typical of plastic products. I use the LL and it removed both with some light circular rubbing.

You can find it on Amazon or directly from whoever captured the supplies of it. I always keep several bottles on hand. A note of caution, though. Watch when you use it on painted plastic surfaces with sharp corners - rubbing too hard can remove the paint.

I started using what I had on hand. I tried the M205 with a Buff & Shine Euro-Tec 3" pad. Slightly better but nearly where it needed to be. I then went with M105 and the result was more dramatic. There were only a couple of defects that I couldn't get out. It would have been a bit easier if I had some 2" pads which I will order. I'm sure I can improve the results a bit more but the difference from before and after are dramatic. Wish I had taken some pics.....

though I have not tried my hand at a bug deflector, I have been restoring old dirt bike plastics that are very very faded...
I have tried applying a little heat and using a very fine grit drywall sanding block, then buff it out after...

not sure how it would work on that bug deflector plastic but it might be worth a shot!
