I'm looking for some running boards for my access cab that are quality made. All I have been seeing are cheap plastic versions. I have some bad arse steel nfabs on my tundra which are awesome, but I think runners are more practical than steps for my taco because of the door design.

What kind of running boards do you guys like? Do you end up using them a lot, even with a stock height vehicle? I'm thinking they will be a good investment if I get a shell and start strapping surfboards or paddleboards to the roof.

I hated ALL runners UNTIL I saw the step rails on the Crawler edition tacoma on ebay. I found them online for about $400. Still deciding if I want them bad enough!

Have you looked at the OEM running boards? They look 'plastic' on the outside, but I can tell you...they're strong. I have a set of double cab boards on my access cab.

This is the framework without the plastic cover.

Are the oem covers replaceable? I plan on keeping my taco until the end of time so I want a surface that will take a beating.

I just put a set of Raptor series stainless ovals on my double cab. Lifetime tube warranty and brackets that fit the three OE mount points. Only negative so far are the supplied 8x1.25 bolts for the brackets to the body. Typical super soft grade of fastener. The socket head cap screws for the tubes are better. I have stainless hardware coming. Pay attention to tube orientation and bracket position, they are specific. They are outside of the fender line s l i g h t l y but I like it. The average car door will hit the tube before it hits my cab.

I doubt it...but you'd have to call a dealer and ask. There's probably some sort of 'warrantee' on them - but I honestly don't know. I bought mine used.
