Have any issues with the steering controls? I installed the same JVC. I really like it and the Pandora/Ipod options.

I'm pretty sure you need to buy the adapter for the steering wheel controls to work. I don't mind not having them, but it wouldn't hurt to have them and I do use it for volume sometimes.

I wanted the same things you wanted & bought a Pioneer from Crutchfield.com
    Pioneer DEH-6300
Crutchfield - Free shipping, Free wiring harness, Free in-dash receiver kit, Free installation guide, Free tech support This was my first stereo install & it was a breeze with Crutchfield. I will buy from them from now on!

I still have the factory speakers. I didn't have the money to upgrade them & it will crank with the new receiver.

I also bought the Steering wheel controller For $69.

So I'm thinking about picking up the AVH-1400 and it asks about this:

PAC Toyota Factory Integration AdapterToyota JBL Interface Install a new receiver while retaining your JBL amplifier in select 2003-up Toyota and Lexus vehicles (Model TATO)
    • The price shown for this accessory has been discounted 50% from $74.99 to $37.49.
    • The Crutchfield harness allows you to use the factory amp(s). In order to retain fading abilities, the new radio must have front and rear preamp outputs.
    • Your vehicle is factory-equipped with an upgraded sound system. We recommend that you purchase an adapter that will connect your new stereo to your amplified factory system.
    Necessary??

If you ever do replace them, you'll be amazed that they even function. The magnets in the front speakers are the size of a silver dollar and the whole thing weighs like 8 oz. I replaced the fronts with a set of Alpine S 6x9s I got on sale at Crutch for like $69 with free shipping. Made a world of difference. You HAVE to have an aftermarket stereo though - the Alpines were very underpowered with the factory unit. Mids and highs sounded great but there wasn't enough juice to produce any bass. When I finally did get a new HU, they blew the rear stock speakers out of the water. I still need to replace those rears actually...

I'm sorry I can't answer your question but I am curious if you do pick it up cause that is the one I was looking at as well. Let us know how you like it if you do.

In lieu of starting another thread, I'm hoping someone sees this and can see if there's any solution to my question.

My 09 (just bought recently) had a Kenwood system installed (by previous owner).

It's a Kenwood KDC-BT645U, Bluetooth capable. Works really great (love the Bluetooth), and I have the unit itself programmed with my desired preset stations.

Now - the steering wheel audio controls perfectly manage the Kenwood's volume but - when I hit the "up/down" scroll buttons, it doesn't "lock" or go to my preset stations - they only go to the next available station.

It's a bit annoying, since the Kenwood's station buttons are tiny.

Reading the Tacoma's owner's manual, the up/down audio buttons should lock on to my presets, except, of course, when you hold it down to do a fast search/scroll.

I'm waiting for the bad news....from y'all....that the steering wheel audio up/down button isn't or won't "read" the Kenwood's presets.

I'm ready. Let me have it. :(

Thanks very much for any input.

USAF - you probably have an adapter installed between the Kenwood and wheel controls. Unfortunately the wheel control adapter used most commonly is not programmable afaik. I think there are high end programmable adapters out there, so you might be able to upgrade.
