Most people, myself included, install smaller gussets that are supplied with the sliders. Mine came from Trail Gear with the mounting kit. First time I installed the sliders, I put the gusset at 12:00. First time off-roading I came down on it so hard, the gusset pierced thru the mounting tube. The second time I mounted them at 10 and 2. I then proceeded to bend the two mounting tubes a couple trips later. Now I have it mounted like above pic with the two smaller gussets at 10 and 2. I haven't had any bending or deflection since.

I haven't noticed any frame deflection or twisting. On a truck as light as a tacoma it should be fine.

Looks.. just save your cash and get some NFabs for looks. I don't care for the kickout look, it looks gimicky to me. I've had AllPro skids.. they lasted 7 months of harsh abuse before I tore them, my buddies AllPro weld on sliders bend and touch the cab when he jacks it up.. maybe its a mounting position issue.. but IMO they shouldn't move at all. My old AllPro front bumpers winch plate was warped from winching... I'm just not that impressed with their quality or thickness of steel. My new AllPro bumper seems to be a little thicker in the winch plate area (could be an illusion), but we'll see how it handles when I put it to the test. I say the over all looks and functionality goes to Shrockworks... only downside is the wait.

If you not that impressed with their stuff why do you keep buying things from AllPro?

I went with Stubbs HD-SKO. They cost more, but I will never have to upgrade my sliders for the life of the vehicle.

Shipping costs are dependent on how far you are from where Richard lives (near Sacramento.) My shipping was about $58.00 UPS OS2 Rate to socal.

The HD-SKO's are beefy, I think about 35 lbs each. Together they're on the border line of OS3 rates.

If you're interested I recommend you give them a call or email them.

Ouch!!! Now both rear door are damaged!

I have Shrockworks - I think they LOOK Great! I think their WELDS, FIT and DESIGN are Great! I must say I am very tempted to sell em and get some ALL Pro with Kick Outs. Going on most trails the Shrockworks are wonderful. One of my problems (I have my fair share) is that my rear doors have been beat up from the tougher trails. From this I have a couple of lessons (and a couple of lesions) that I think I can learn from this...

    1. Just because someone wants to go wheeling doesn't make them a good or even, marginal spotter!
    2. Slow down
    3. Slow down
    4. Measure 4 times

This is where I had my second "Think about getting All Pro Rock Sliders with Kickouts" counseling session.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN88rc1h9GQ

Does anyone have any videos of the All Pro Rock Sliders in action? I would love to drive this lesson home!!!

Has anyone welded on a 'kick out' on to a non-kick-out type slider?

Just giving a bump to a fairly important thread.

I have the Shrocks also. I have bashed them on everything and they are still straight. I would recommend them to anyone.

BTW , Shrockworks does offer a KO version of their hybrid sliders. I found this out after I asked them about adding a KO to mine:(.

They offered me a straight switch for the KO's (since I'm local and a loyal customer) until they saw that mine were welded and bolted:D

Great guys (Jim, Josh, and Mitch) and great products!! FTW!!

I can see how the kickouts will help but I would be nervous about my little boys foot getting caught in it

    I like the shrockworks.

And does anybody know what kind of a front bumper that 2nd truck have on the samples? Its the one one with the Shrockworks straight sliders.

    Thanks!

I'm very curious about how welding or drilling the frame might affect warranty coverage - does anybody have any thoughts or experiences? I'd prefer bolt on sliders because I like the idea of easy modification, etc., but feel a bit uncomfortable about drilling holes into my frame.

I was told Off Road versions don't have a warranty...:)

Only if that's the frame that fails on your truck. The reality of it is the likelihood of your truck having a frame warranty claim is close to nil.

Yeah, I'd the chances of frame failure are quite slim. I suppose I just don't trust that Toyota would point to the frame mod (weld or bolts) and cry foul if anything defect was even in the vicinity of the frame.

    IDK, maybe I'm just jaded

With regards to integrity, Toyota improved the frame design on the 2009+ model Tacoma adding some reinforcements in certain locations. So in theory, an 09 frame would be a little stronger than an older model 2nd gen Tacoma.

See this link for a picture and description

Also, adding sliders would reinforce the frame and improve structural integrity.
