It all depends on what you use your truck for, 2wd is sufficient unless you go offroad a lot or live in a VERY cold climate with lots of snow. I have had my 2wd 3 yrs now, NEVER have I need 4wd.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
    M3, tacoma

That would be cooler than the x runner.

    Yea, it can work.

Bologna sandwichs can feed you too but medium rare steak is much tastier :)

I love the 4wd for the trailer when it snows. Only way to go.

Not to mention all of the other things I use my truck for but pulling a trailer in the snow without 4x4 is PITA

Some ppl NEED 4wd to make up for a lack of manhood, it's understandable. I mean, having something you don't NEED is pretty smart right? Nah, didn't think so. :D

That's pretty intelligent, looks like the lack of manhood is coming out of the woodwork!

Just in case people don't know this - if you have a 2WD truck you'll go farther climbing a hill in reverse than you will in a forward gear. If you're in trouble in a 2WD, take it in reverse.

No FAIL here homie, I don't need 4wd security to get around. It's like an extra security blanket for pansies. HAHAHA

4WD in So Cal is not much more than 2WD. I got my 09 Tacoma DC 4x4 MGM for $31500 OTD. That was only an extra $3000 which isn't much. Added only $50/month. It's a luxury for me though b/c I only use it when it snows or if the local mud pit is ready. I've used 4HI for rainy days too so I don't spin out with my lead foot. I love acceleration and speed. If I didn't ride sportbikes then I would have a Subaru STI hatchback. An AWD X-Runner would be perfect for me.

I also owned a BMW before I purchased my tacoma. When I finally sold it I decided to get the vehicle which would be the most different from the BMW. So I ended up with a regular cab 4x4 Tacoma with power nothing and no luxury features in the slightest. It's been pretty great so far. I really like not having to worry about driving over anything bigger than a soda can aspect of the truck life. On the other hand I really miss the sweet ass BMW manual transmission. It shifted like a wet dream.

Both are great vehicles. I have no idea what I'll get next once I finally drive this tacoma into the ground. (the BMW made it to 235,000 miles before finally needing expensive repairs)

    Stock for now :)
I own a TRD offroad 4x4 6 speed manual. (Rare option). I love it. Better to have than not to have and need. Go for the 4x4. By the way, the 2wd and 4wd get about the same gas mileage. Then again its a truck so expect fuel economy to be not so great. Oh and don't listen to Jason. I think he wishes he had a 4x4. :)

Just a bunch of old crap
Listen to all the prerunners praising 2wd over 4wd.... I already lost count all of the prerunners I have had to yank out of easy crawls and sand. Just depends on what your primary uses are for, though. I spend 95% of my time on freeways commuting, but that 5% where I actually have to use 4wd is worth the extra $$
