I have a wrx and I’m lookin to liquidate it for a Tacoma. There is a dealership that will give me 29k for my wrx and they also have a 2012 taco with 60k on it for 21k but it’s a 4cyl manual (but it’s so minty). But there is also a 137k mile 2007 taco in town for 14k but it’s all beat up. But it has rhe v6 and auto trans that I kinda want. Is the silver one worth getting just because they’d take the wrx off my hands? I don’t have faith in it selling quick thays sorta why I’m leaning towards the 2012… any input is appreciated I’m torn.

If you’re going from a WRX to a 4 cylinder Taco, you’re going to be DISAPPOINTED. If you’re going to make a change like that, get the V6.

But it’s just so much nicer and they’d take the wrx off my hands. I guess I’m just slightly nervous about the wrx sellin and that’s why Im leaning towards the 2012… even though it’s like 7k more than the 2007 hmmmn.

Those aren’t the only two Tacoma’s for sale. Keep searching for a newer cleaner 4.0 then.

Ah true maybe I’m being impatient as well. If I could snag the blue one for 13k is that an alright deal though?

So? If you told me that, I'd ignore you and get 4cycl Tacoma... because it SAVES gas! It is about personal needs.. if he lives on flat land and not tow anything at all, then 4cycl is good for that. Unless you live on land with hills all over, then V6 or higher depends how steep the hills are or towing is needed. But heavy towing is needed, then I recommend that you get full size truck for that reason.

Who buys a truck for speed? Why do so many of y’all care about speed so much? It’s a truck. Toyota 4WDs aren’t meant to go fast. Get something else if you want fast.

I think I might set up a poll to see how many mid-20's guys drop their WRX's to go buy a pickup, and then choose the Tacoma haha.

OP - don't be impatient. Buy the newest 4.0L you can afford. Also make sure to check for rusty frames

Tell that to all the people getting tunes. A V6 may not be fast, but it's faster than a four banger and that's all that matters. Lol!

Don't trade in your WRX, you're leaving money on the table. Sell it to a private party and you're going to be better off financially. And try not to buy from a dealer either, if you can help it. If you make that trade then you could have gotten more for your WRX and paid less for your new truck had you just done private party sales rather than a dealer.

Personally, I wouldn't drive a 4cyl Tacoma unless it was a little 1st gen single cab 2wd for putzing around. I've got the 4.0 V6 in my DCLB and IMO it's barely adequate. I wish it had a lot more power but it works just fine and has hauled everything I've ever needed it too. Then again, the brakes also suck so if it had a lot more power it'd also need much better brakes. A lot depends on what you plan to do with the truck and what your preferences are like.

Around here 2012+ are much more expensive than 05-11 - like a $10k premium. For me, it wasn't worth it. But man, if I could, I for sure would have gotten a 2012+. The older trucks feel older due to the interior, stereo, front end... so if that matters to you, try to get the newest year you can.

Don't be in a rush. Take your time looking and be willing to travel a little. It's always worth it to stick it out and wait until you find the right vehicle at the right price. I have a hunch we've hit peak Tacoma pricing already so I expect values to be pretty flat or maybe trend down a little even which means there's no rush and possibly a benefit to waiting.

Okay thanks for all the replies you guys rock!! I know I’ve had trucks all my life besides this wrx but Chevy keeps back stabbing me and I need a smaller truck so taco it is. I think you are all correct I’m gonna be patient and hold out for a 6cyl I think. That blue one is still tempting just because it’s cheap and near me but true maybe I chill the frig out and just leave the wrx for sale for a little while.

Wow, lots of hate for the 4 cylinder. Not here. I love my 2.7L 5 speed manual. It totally depends on what you are going to use the truck for. If you are towing anything or going with a lift and big tires then absolutely get the 6 cylinder. Can't speak for anyone else but my 2.7L has been bulletproof. 2010 with 160k, original clutch and not one mechanical failure while never burning a drop of oil or leaking. 21 MPG all the time and it's still fun to drive with the manual. If they still sold the 2TR with a manual transmission I would get that over the 6 cylinder based on my own reliability experience.

Best of luck with whatever you get.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Get the 4. Don’t drink their kool-aid. Just because they’ve all made mistakes doesn’t mean you have to.
