Hey guys I'm a noob here and need some help weighing my options. I have a 2006 Double Cab and looking to beef up my wheels. I've got two options:

    1. 18" Ultra rims on 285/60/R18 Nitto Terra Grapplers
    or
    2. 17" Dick Cepek rims on 285/70/R17 Goodyear MTR's

I like the look of the bigger tires but I have stock suspension with no lift now. Would I need a lift for either of these? Which would you go with?

I don't like the terra grapplers. I wouldn't go with those...

At the same time, you may not need the MTR's. they're a really expensive mud terrain...I'd check out the BFG Mud Terrains too.

    1 if you're on the street a lot...2 if you're off road a lot.

Both will require a lift and/or minor trimming.

Ehh 2 may not require a lift but will take trimming and a CMC. but yes you'd be better off lifting.

Engage Long Travel 6 over with race spindles. 2.5x8 sway a ways wrapped in King Coils.
    He can't fit 18's on stock suspension?
    I stuffed 35's in my 6'inch.
You should get a lift then go bigger on the tires(with a deduction in fuel economy) and give it like 2 oor 3 inches of poke.

He'll certainly have some trouble fitting those 285/70R17's without a lift. The 285/60R18's should be fine with a little trimming at least height wise, the width may require some extra trimming though.

They say that 265/75R16 and 265/70R17 are the biggest size that you can fit without a lift. That is a 31.6"x10.5" tire. The 285/70R17 is a 32.7"x11.25" and the 285/60R18 is a 31.4"x11.25"

That is a 32"x10" tire. I am running 255/85R16 (33"x10") and I still had to do a little trimming with a 3" suspension lift, and that's was just to take care of the on street rubbing. haha

Alright so I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the billy 5100's up front, would the 285/70/ 17's fit?

I've been looking at the 18's and they look rather small, with a big rim.

I have 16x8 with 4.5" backspacing. Not sure what factory backspacing is, but they are 16x7.5" aren't they?
5100's will give you your choice of lift up front up to 2.5" so yes you can adjust your lift to fit the tires and reduce the amount of trimming required Then just add an AAL to level you out. I am running 5100's up front, but I have them set at 0 with OME 886's on them.
