I'm coming up on that point where I'm due for another set of tires. I've been looking at the BFG Rugged Terrain's and the Nitto Terra-Grapplers. Both look great. I don't know a whole lot about tires though and I'd like some opinions from you all

    Thanks, Casey.

Do you off-road a lot or do you just want an aggressive tire look? How many miles are you wanting to achieve with a new set?

Sounds like you're looking for an A/T Tire. Nittos are great. Owned by toyo or vice versa. So they're basically a Toyo AT2 only cheaper :D My dad runs them in a 295 on his 2013 ram 2500 and they look just under 50% with 36,000 miles on them.

I like my duratracs because of the agressive look but the on road manner in snow. However with how much of an offroad toy my truck has become I hate the soft sidewalls.

I also was very fond of my BFG AT Ko2s. Those things last forever and also do well in snow. I've heard lesser reviews about the rugged terrains.

    Just my .02

Edit: Just realized you're in Florida so the snow aspects don't really apply to you haha

I do some light off-roading, and I do want an aggressive look to my tires. It really makes the truck look better. I do want the tires to last me some time as well.

IMHO, the Michelin AT2 is the best all-around tire (quiet, grippy, long-lasting, good handling).

BUT, if all you care about is how bad-ass they look in the local WallyWorld parking lot, then go
    with TSL boggers :

Cooper ST MAXX has very strong sidewall and looks badass/sexy while maintaining good control on both wet and dry pavement. Very quiet on road considering aggressive appearance of the tread.

I gotta give credit where credit is due..... When I bought my Tacoma this past November, it had just got new tires. I've been counting down the days until I have time to put different (ie "bigger") rubber on in their place, but what I have found out is I have a new appreciation for the ones already on the truck. They are what I'd consider a highway tread even though they're called an all terrain....Yokohama Geolanders. (265/75/R16's) They did exceptionally well in the 17" snow we had last winter. They do "ok" on dirt and rock. I haven't had the nerve to get 'em in any slick mud though....But these are quiet, good even wearing, smooth riding, and provide GREAT snow/wet road traction. I have a feeling I'm going to miss 'em when I put on whatever 285/75/R16 "mud tires" I decided to go with.

Interesting to read this. Yoko Geolandars were what was on my Taco when I purchased it. My experience with them goes against absolutely everything in your post (to the point that I wonder if you are trolling!) No offense if you are being serious, I'd be interested to hear more about your driving conditions and such. I was driving on them in Winter and can safely say they are probably the worst snow/ice/wet/mud/rock tire I have ever experienced. Granted, you were probably driving on them brand new with full tread and mine were at least 2/3s worn?.. They may be significantly better when brand new I wouldn't know.

Not trolling at all....As you mentioned, mine were BRAND NEW.....Full tread. And I made it clear, NO MUD.....We had a 17" snow last winter and it shut down most everything around here for a couple days. I was getting around like the snow wasn't even there. So much so, I've commented to several people that my Tacoma might be the best all around "snow vehicle" I've ever owned. Not sure how much credit to give the truck, or how much to the tires.....Or how much it was a simple matter of "expert driving techniques"! ;)

Hmm ok. Our winter consisted of temperature fluctuation so there was a good mix of a few inches of snow or slush or ice all mixed together or separate and all completely at random. 17" I'd imagine would be compacted and likely would stay cold enough so as not to melt and then freeze into a sheet? I'm in Ohio which is sort of close to you, but I have to admit that I have no idea what KY winters are like.

The 17" snow was dry powder.....It didn't pack much. That makes for a power robbing combination. Narrow tires work better than wide. A few days before the 17"er, we had a 2"/3" snow that melted and re-froze, so there was a layer of ice under the 17"'s. I was born and raised in South central Indiana. Our winters there were much like Ohio, which isn't all that much different than Kentucky.

Gotcha. All very informative stuff, interesting to hear that the Geos are loads better new than they are later in their lifecycle. Agreed on the tall and skinny, they're the best for everything I want/need to drive on! I've got 255/85s on now and can do things that don't seem feasible..
