Just installed the MX4 on the new truck. It is well made, solid and looks great. Initially I wasn't going to spend that much on a cover. Now glad I did. Don't know much about the other model.

Personally, I like the OEM. Not a 100% water tight but easy enough to remedy that if necessary.

I saw the undercover at my local shop but it’s about the same as the bakflip it just has carpet under the lower panels and the light it comes with, those are the differences that I saw. I wish I can get on OEM but the ones I find for sale the people don’t want to swap rails for some reason

I don’t really see any threads here about undercover, I’m leaning more towards the bakflip now!

The install takes longer than most people claim. Had to remove the side rails and then remount on the new rails at the bottom. All the mounting bolts were torx head T30. Make sure the torx socket is new or grind the end flat where it is worn so it can seat deep into the bolt head. I stripped 3 bolt heads before I decided to clean up the end of the socket. Was lucky that I had a new set of easy-outs(bolt extractors from Snap-On). They worked like a charm to remove the stripped bolt (actually better than the torx socket. Just have to take you time and align the cover.

Love my Bakflip MX4, took me about an hour to install. Not difficult at all. Just buy yourself a star bit for the rails.

I just had a Bakflip MX4 installed by a truck accessories shop. I don't know if it is in the DIY instructions but these guys put a small bead of silicone caulk at the 2 front corners.

Was the hole on each side under 2" by 2" piece self stick black foam that goes between the bulk head and the bed side walls? It is like a 1/4 hole that I plugged with that 6' self sticking foam which was in the kit for top of the bulk head at the cab that I didn't need to use. If that doesn't keep the water out, I will use black silicone..

I can't really help you because I did not watch the installer guys very closely. They did say the MX4 is not waterproof but rather it is "water resistant". And some water did get in when I washed the truck.

Had the undercover on my tundra and it was nice. Totally waterproof but noticed it faded really quick always had to put that tonneau sauce on it to make it look nice. Also with the undercover you can not fit taller stuff in the bed Unless you left it open but you can’t drive open so you had to take it off which was a bitch if I was by myself. All in all it was a great cover but had some flaws. Got it from tonneau cover warehouse for around 800

    This.

UnderCover. Waterproof, easy to install, removable.

My complaint with both those options is the same as the OEM one... The design is flawed in that it eats up too much bed space on an already small bed when folded open. Not sure if you've looked at a ReTrax tonneau but they have a much better design IMO and some models can even be used with Yakima bed racks.

    I'm considering the Bakflip MX4.

    1. Can someone tell me if the side rails remain on the truck, or do they need to be removed?

    2. Is it necessary to drill drain holes in the bed, or can I avoid this step by plugging the drain hole?

    Thanks.
