The empty bed looks great, but I need lockable storage this January.

I plan on ordering likely an Alu-Cab after some research and a little saving. Ordering now, they won’t arrive for like 5 months so having it in 2 months time for January won’t happen.

I’m thinking of getting a decent, but not totally incredible, Tonneau. What should I go with? How much should I spend? What are things I should consider? I’d like it to be secure enough to carry luggage and skis this winter.

I have a ‘23 Lunar TRD OR DCSB. This is my first time on TacomaWorld so consider guiding me.

Edit to add this: what about the OEM tonneau? I figure it’s lockable, resale easy, ok in all categories but not amazing at any. Am I thinking of OEM correctly? Might be the easiest move?

Something with resale value I guess?

Yeah, one thing I’m after. But not too expensive that if it’s a 50% loss it’s not terrible.

My access roll up tonneau was inexpensive, easy to install, pretty water tight and held up well for 6 years. Definitely not the most secure but I left snowboard gear in it pretty regularly without issue. Crime isn’t huge in my area but I think if people can’t see what you got most aren’t gonna poke around too much or bother cutting your tonneau in the off chance there’s something worth taking in there.

@HighCountryTacoma , how much was inexpensive and do you have an idea how much to not go over in my endeavor?

I bought it years ago but think it was like five hundred. I sold it for $150 after six years.

I had a LEER and built out a camper shell with Inca. I sold my shell and needed a temporary cover so I went to Amazon Marketplace and got a tonneua cover for next to nothing.
It isn't lockable but it was secure enough for me.
Check out Facebook Marketplace for local sales.

I’ve not yet heard of Inca; I like your setup @2013XSPX .

What about the OEM tonneau? Should I consider that lockable and decent in all areas, not amazing in any?

For the OEM tonneau you have to modify your bed rail caps, so since its temporary I'd go a different direction. Finding something decent used is probably your best bet, then re sell it once you no longer need it.

Holy shit, really? OEM is the last one I’d expect to require modification. How do I figure out which ones don’t?

I think what I want is
    - lockable
    - decent weather protection
    - no modifications (if that’s a thing)
    - good option for winter travel for skis, luggage, that use.

I had the same issue earlier this year before I found a used GFC topper and I went with a bed cover from eBay that didn't require any mods. it wasn't perfect, but it kept luggage and baseball gear safe and dry (for the most part) for about 8 months, and it didn't break the bank (I gave it to a friend after I got the topper). it latches to the side rails and if you have a tailgate lock, you should be pretty secure.

    I really liked my
Tonno Pro loroll $299 easy to install and low price.

I think you can find them for around $220 if you shop eBay or Amazon

I agree with those who have said to buy something used. You'll pay a lot less and probably be able to recoup most (maybe all) of what you pay for it.

I had a folding Gator tonneau on my '15 and liked it a lot.

Weird that the OEM tonneau requires modification.
