Did you buy it new from a Leer dealer or used? Just wondering if it was painted after the fact. I haven't seen any manufacturers topper fade in recent years unless it was painted after the fact.

    Here is my 180cc.

Not sure what year (maybe 2007 or 2008?) I got it but I had it on an 2006. Leer painted it super white. When I got my 2012 last October and put the shell on it the color seemed a very slight different. Not sure if the photo shows any different but I do not notice anymore. The extra height is nice if you ever camp in the back. I really like the side lift windows. I have the take out cab window but I do not ever really take it out. On the other accessories the 12 volt cig plug do not get from leer. If you want one get a good one and put in yourself. The dome light? I ended up braking it with in 6 months. It was just a cheap piece of crap.

The biggest thing I recommend on any top you get is to buy a can of spray lube called LPS # 3. It is not cheap but spray it in to the locks on the first day you get it and then maybe ever 2-3 years. You will never ever have any problems with the locks freezing up. This lube works great for chains and cables (winch cables) and any other locks.

My suggestion. Rent a trailer and drag your stuff with you that way or do like others mentioned and try to pick something up off of the local used market. People are always looking for caps in the west coast to beat the annual vehicle registration costs so you probably won't have to hang on to it for very long.

If you are rushing to make a deadline you may very well regret your "new" purchase later on. If it's something you plan to keep as you've intended to add one and your trip is an excuse to push the purchase forward then by all means go for it. But seriously, don't buy one because it's what you can lay hands on real fast. Buy one because it's "the one" that you really want.

And for what it's worth, I have the Windoors on both sides and am so very grateful that I do. Makes life so much easier when loading and unloading and need to reach that space in the front that can't be gotten to with all of the stuff in the way from the tailgate. And on the tip-in and removable cab-side glass, wish I would have gone with that as it's less than entertaining to keep those windows clean now.

Hope your trip goes well and you make it safely to the other side.

Very good points. However, I do need it for more reasons than just the drive and a full load of gear. I also have some surfboards I have to put on the roof and the cap with racks would be perfect. And, all my trucks always had toppers so eventually I would get one any way. It's funny that you mention the trailer because you can literally buy a nice used trailer for the same price as a topper which really goes to show you how waaay over priced new toppers really are. But I do understand, everyone has to make some money, they have to ship it, etc. i'll have to make the final decision this week in order to have it arrive in time...thanks to everyone so far for all the posts.

I go with the front boot instead of a window.

These things are hard to sell. Keep a big net out and you will find one.

Any part of the cab is accessible with a boot. Inside, outside, whatever. The boot is just a rubber ring that fits the rear window dimension.

Maybe I misunderstood , but doesn't the boot connect the rear cab window to the cap window ?

Yeah, it's just a rubber ring that seals the cap to the cab. It fits the dimension of the cab window. You can remove the cab window if you want to and still have a sealed access from cap to cab. There's no problem cleaning any part of the cab or cap.

So , with the boot in place , how do you wash the rest of the rear cab glass and back of cab
