Hello, brand new here and stumped as to which tranny is in my 98 Tacoma.

It is not the W59 it's supposed to be, and it's not an r150 as the shifter on the left is close, but no cigar...

Look at this photo and please ID my transmission!!! I have about gone blind trying to figure it out...

My shifter on the right, R150 on the left...

    Thank y'all in advance!

Just what do you need your trying to figure this out?

Just what engine do you have??

A Toyota this old no telling what might be swapped in.

Your 100% sure the one on the left is the R150?

    Good Luck

I was hoping someone would just recognize the difference in the shifters and know...

I've about gone blind trying to figure it out, with no results.

At this point, I am not sure of anything.

    Engine is a 2.7

The shifter on the left was ordered off eBay from a guy that seems to know his stuff.

The shifter in my trans is broken, but bush fixed, and I need to source a housing that matches mine.

All the rest of the parts interchange.

I didn't know I was getting into a Frankentruck, but here I am...

It's less Tacoma and more mod
It appears to be a w59 to me. Did you mistakenly order a shifter for a two-wheel drive w59 when you need a four wheel drive? The shifter turrets are different between the two wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions

A w56 will bolt to a w59 bellhousing which will obviously bolt to a 2rz/3rz. But thats doesnt look to be the issue here. I have 3 r150fs, both early, late, and taco and there is a mix of shifter bases depending if it was behind a 3.0 or a 3.4 and if it was in a t100 or pickup or taco. But it would take a custom bell housing to bolt that up to your 3rz anyways unless you have a unicorn r151 bell.

W59 shifters have a 6 bolt housing do they not?

That's what started this whole mess, trying to explain to the dealer that the W59 shifter wouldn't fit because of different bolt pattern..

    I don't think it's a r151, wasn't that only in the turbo trucks of the 80s?

Could it be a later model R155?

Yes 22rte. I have never handled a r155 so I dont know. I also dont have any w59 shifters to check as I just use the bellhousing for early truck 3rz swaps, so I end up using the w56 shifters.

If it helps anything, the R150f shifter on the left is 4-1/2" spacing on the long side, and whatever mine is measures 4-7/8"...

I am amazed that I can't find the answer to this. I've been diggin' for two days. Worst parts problem I have ever run into as far as a "what the heck is it" goes...

One of the studs broke on my old shifter, and the stick rotated. As of now the housing holes have been tapped, and bolts and lock washers are holding it all together and it works fine.

But I know this bush fix ain't gonna last forever, and I am going to have to figure this out...

I gotta be missing something simple, there just can't be that many possibilities, can there???

If I had a w59 shifter I would compare it to my 3vze r150f shifter, but I dont. Let me know if you need any other pics of w56 or r150f and I will try to get them tomorro

Well, I got back in contact with eBay guy, and he says this came out of a W59f...Says the W59 is six bolts, but the F is four.

    Screenshot_20220522-141944.jpgScreenshot_20220522-141944.jpgScreenshot_20220522-142044.jpg

This LOOKS long enough to me, but of course he doesn't have another one...

A dealer parts monkey may have sent me on a wild goose chase, and I have a W59f all along...

Thanks for y'all's help, and I will update! Done worrying about this for today...
