99% positive i have a bad wheel bearing, ive had one go bad in my previous truck. i have a humming that has gotten louder over the last month or so, and it goes away when i turn left. I jacked up the truck and tried to find free play, and/or a grinding sound in both wheels, and they both seem perfect - no noise, and no free play.

So, is there any way i can know which side is bad? Maybe a dumb question, but are there rear wheel bearings i should be checking out too? I wanna order one from BamaToy1997 but want to be sure i need one first....

Sounds like the left side is bad. Taking a left turn takes much of the load off the left side, and shifts it to the right. A wheel bearing will normally quiet down as the load is taken off of it.

Thanks for the reply. In my last truck, Ford Ranger, i used the logic you shared and was wrong! Sound went away on left turn, left bearing was bad. Nope, it was the right side.

Considering bringing it to toyota and having them deal with it. ill spend 200 for the parts myself, or i can have them do it for around 300 since theyd only replace the bearing not the whole hub, i figure 50 something in parts and a few hours labor. might be worth it.

    back to bone stock.
i also guess wrong using that logic above.

i was out of town, so my wife took it to an indie shop to have it done. it was the opposite the side i guessed.

all was great, except their wheel torquing skills suck. i lost a lug wheeling during a deer hunt. it could have been bad.
