I went from an f150 fx4 to my tacoma and love it. My tacoma is smaller and more capable of going places the Ford couldn't fit. My buddy still has his f150 and things are going bad on it all the time, spark plugs broke when trying to change them, rear piston broke in half when compressing it both window regulators failed within a week of each other all within a span of 6 months.

Thanks for all the replys. Ill try and post to a f150 forum sometime tomorrow and let yall know what they said. Still trying to make up my mind. I like the room in the f150 but the looks of the tacoma. plus the tacoma with the 6 speed manual is much more fun to drive

I have a '98 F-150, and my '09 Taco... I've spent well over double what I payed for my F-150 in repairs for the damn thing. I don't think I'll ever buy another ford.

    But that's just me...

The best deterrent story I have: The clutch on the ford had a known problem of leaking clutch fluid through the slave cylinder whenever temperatures would drop below -20 degrees (Celsius). I've known a few people with the same truck that had the same problem. When I approached a Ford dealership asking how I could avoid this after having it fixed 3 times they told me, "don't drive it when it's cold out." It took a LONG time till they came out with a slave cylinder that didn't have this issue...

Not to mention the engine on it hydro-locked with only 120k on it.

I admit, I drive my vehicles hard... but my experiences with the Toyota's I've owned are that they are tough sob's. I'm a Toyota lifer now...

I would go with the Taco. Im not a Ford guy by any means and even if you don't use the four doors all the time the one time you do need it, it will come in handy. Also i like the look and beefyness of the Taco.:taco::mudding:

Toyota fanboyisms aside, You gotta look at a couple facts: Tacoma resale value is one of the highest of any vehicle, not just trucks. That isnt marketing, its real and it shows (at least to me!) that these things are a much better value than a lot of other competitors. So just in terms of money, selling the Ford now and keeping the slowly-depreciating Tacoma is your best bet.

But I have another question: What do you like driving more? I mean that's what we do with these things, right? Do you like/hate the bigger bulkier feel of the full-size F150? For me, one of the reasons I love Tacomas is because they are small yet capable. 2nd gens aren't compact trucks anymore but they are still nimble little things when compared to many other trucks. If you prefer the bigger feel of the F150 maybe that is a better fit for you. Just something to think about.

Surley you cant mean it truely hydrolocked;) That would mean you sucked water into the intake and blew the motor. That has nothing to do with milage just sucking up water.

If they tacoma gets 3more MPG's Thats like 60 more miles to the tank than that 150. Thats pretty much 3 gallons at $4 a gallon shit adds up quick.

My boss has an F150 of that model the thing hasnt had a single problem in 100K miles. So i would think they are both pretty solid trucks. Both are big enough to make parking suck

sell the ford and use the money to buy a lift and larger tires for the tacoma :)

oh wait.. then you would lose the mpg advantage :)

I'd definitely choose the Taco. A friend of mine had a F-150 and she had all kinds of problems with it...not sure what exactly, but I remember it was something to do with the engine. Personally, I would not choose a Ford vehicle since IMHO they are made with even cheaper materials than modern day Toyotas. Just my $0.02.

3 spark plugs broke off during a routine tune-up on my brother in laws 05' f150 with 90k miles on it. Tacoma FTW!

Have had Fords, Chevy's & a Ram. They all had there pluses but when I bought the Tacoma, it was "love at first ride". Best all around truck I've owned. Wouldn't consider going back to one of the others. My last ford had 125,000 mi. on it and the rear main on the engine was leaking and the electrical system was starting to give me problems. Am I predjudice when it comes to Tacomas- yes.

I have had both. The F-150 is an awesome truck. It is almost like a Limo compared to the Taco.

But I prefer the Taco because of MPG, looks, value and size. My Taco feels quicker too.

Don't get me wrong the F-150 is just as reliable and the quality is equal, but it does'nt fit into my garage as easily.

The Taco is the best built small truck. It just makes sense. I could never do without a Taco (in more than one way too. ;)).

Incorrect terminology I guess? Coolant leaked into my piston... I figured it was the same term.

I work on light trucks every day, and from a professional point of view go with the Taco. Your cost of ownership will be half of what the Ford will be. No blown out spark plugs, transmission failures, electrical component failures, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love Ford trucks, they make my Taco & house payment every month:)

Ok I haven't posted on here in a while, but i decided to keep the f150. (still haven't sold the tacoma my father has been driving it). But now as last night the f150 is broke down. 2005 with 91,000 miles broke down. No excuse for that ford! Wow could of swore some people on here and a few friends and family told me the same thing yall did about the tacoma being a better vehicle. Damn me for being so hard headed. Now im looking at a 1-2 grand getting the cam fixed and hoping that is the only problem. Going to get the f150 fixed and fixed right (im not the person to pawn a broken vehicle off on somebody else and give them a problem going to get it fixed right) and sell it and see if I can talk dad in to selling me tacoma again. I just wanted to post on here again and tell other people like me that have been lurking around this site trying to decide full size American trucks vs Toyota trucks to def pick the Toyota. I had an 01 with a few miles on it before with no problems, my uncle has a 96 with 250,000 no problems, and friends and family with them and several miles with no trouble. I guess some people like me just have to live and learn. Im a true toyota truck fan now, and i truly believe toyota makes the best trucks on the road period.

I'd go Tacoma. I love manuals, better gas mileage, the F150 is nearing the end of its life while the Tacoma is just starting to grow up. I have ridden in the back of a 1st gen for 5 hours straight and with a few good friends you don't mind the cramped space.
