I walked into my local dealer for service and noticed they had about a dozen factory lifted vehicles in the show room so I decided to take a look.

I've seen people post stuff like this before but was surprised to find it myself. Dealers are welcome to charge what they want but I almost fell over at the price.

The lifts were at least Toyote Boss kits and not spacer or leveling kits which I was pleasantly surprised to see and they also used SPC upper control arms and their tires were Duratrac. Overall it seemed like an acceptable build.....if you are willing to pay an extra $13000 for it......

They also add on an extra $600 for LED head lights. I found one toyota that was marked as HID conversion but were actually LED plug and play bulbs, dealer said it was a clerical mistake....

Hey, they can charge what they want but I was caught off guard a bit. I spoke to Michael at the dealer and he was a really good guy and we talked about the things they do to the trucks.

I kind of feel like they are taking advantage of the ignorant or uneducated. For the $13000-$15000 mark up you can petty much do what you want to your truck.

Plenty of people also pay the extra for the convenience and lack of hassle when it comes to warranty work

What is the diamon fusion windshield package for 800? Is that just some coating or some film over it? Seems like a gimmick.

True they did come with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty on the aftermarket stuff.

I dont know if convenience is worth that much, plenty of reputable aftermarket places that do a good job and offer warranties.

Ill have to google it. I wonder if its like 3M shield

    When MONEY>TIME these trucks sell.
Or someone that knows jack about Turning a wrench.
Some people will buy it just for the fact that it was "dealer installed" and covered under warranty... I get that.
But doing it yourself DOESN'T void your warranty. Unless you are a retard and really fudge something up, which is a direct cause of the part you are trying to get covered.
Suspension is not rocket science, and I don't need to pay 14k just to have a part replaced "UNDER WARRANTY" if it fails(and if you bought quality equipment, it shouldn't). End rant.

OP, I wonder if there is wiggle room on those add ons when purchasing the truck? I know most dealers won't work on the truck price itself, but always curious about the extras.

Bought mine with a few dealer installed extras. The asking price was ridiculous just like OP saw. They came way down on the price though, to the point where time saved was greater than DIY money saved.

Also, I think alot of people are willing to pay more so the cost can be rolled into the loan instead of out of pocket.

    Agreed.

I'm not sure about the wiggle room, they became pretty defensive when I questioned one of their "HID kits." I literally had to pull the bulb out and show them it was a simple LED. I was like, where is the ballast, where is the wiring harness? I was like you are charging $600 for $100 plug and play LED bulbs.

Ah good point, i didnt think of that.

Shit antics like this is why every potential buyer should be absolutely ruthless when negotiating.

Make them come after you. Walk out on them, make them call you back, do whatever you can to force their hand. When all else fails, tell them you will give your business to their closest geographic competitor.

It's borderline criminal what they do to uneducated buyers, so it's up to people like us that belong to forums such as TW to give them hell.

I hate seeing legitimate businesses feed off the weak. I love capitalism and free America, but it's not just turning a profit anymore for some of these guys.

I can't imagine financing an extra $13K for a Lift & tires. At least it was a quality lift kit (not spacers).

Many people have more money than brains.

And some people don't have the desire to hunt down a second shop to do more work to a new truck and then deal with fighting Toyota for any potential warranty work (i know i know Magnuson Moss Act)

I don't see it as shady sales tactics or feeding off the uninformed or weak either...they're pretty open about the added cost of the stuff...

Not like they lured someone in, or financed someone when they couldn't really afford the truck or anything like that

AFAIK though, only that dealer will warranty the work since they're the ones to install the lift. Another dealer could tell them to pound sand if they took their truck to them for warranty work.

Still better than trying to fight all the dealers...having 1 willing to is better than none

even if you're "right" and mods didnt cause the failure it's still on you to prove it and that can end up costing much more than just replacing a denied part
