So, I am forced to put my 2nd gen on a new frame. Aside from dropping 4G's on it, I figured I should at least do one other thing while it's apart.
I am thinking urethane bushings or suspension something. What would you guys do when the truck is apart?

Cab mounts typically seize, makes the frame swap a huge pain, something to expect.

Ebrake cables on almost all rusty 2nd gens need to be replaced, check your cable to drum housings for cracks.

Rack and pinions are known for leaking and are difficult to replace, but super easy when the frame is being swapped.

Most lower control arms are seized in place on 2nd gen frame swaps, its actually part of the kit, so expect lower arms and hardware.

My Ebrake is stuck and where it enters the drum is already broken open/off. I didn't know this was a thing to look for, thanks.

They suck to change on rusty frames with cab on. Its part of the frame swap. Wicked easy with the cab off.

Seriously I always secretly hope people decline the cables when I quote them.

Poly bushings sound cool but in reality they'll squeak like hell and drive you crazy

The claim is that the red ones make noise, but the black ones don’t since they are impregnated with graphite or something.

Regarding bushings, I replaced my cab mounts and radiator bushings with Energy poly bushings and don't get any particular squeaks or squeals, and the ride was unbelievably better going from 200k+ miles on the factory bushings.

I’m assuming you’re doing it and not Toyota?
Toyota did my 08 I provided a oem rack with hoses inner outer tie rods, body and rad bushings the black ones, rear shocks, already had Billie 5100s on front, and a lower intermediate steering shaft oem.
Parking brake cables had already been done.
Toyota did frame, gas, brake lines, fuel tank straps, lower control arms.
May want to check cab mounts cab corners for rot.
Thing was like new got freaking T-boned a yr later :annoyed:

    great post.
Besides this reinforcing the LCA tabs would be smart.

    Maybe box plates reinforcing

Fuel pump replace while accessible and change to one with separate replaceable filter

a good cleaning and protective coating while you’ve got access to the frame

motor and trans mounts upgrade if you feel like it. PITA to do in the truck.

and you can flip the UCA long bolts 180deg.

anything else you think needs doing like if water pump is due is probably gonna be easier with the cab off.
Maybe spraying AeroKroil on certain hardware to aid future removal and prevent rust.
