When I accelerate in my Tacoma, there is a whine that comes from my engine bay, and increases with whining. It is not putting up a check engine light at all, and got my pulleys checked out and they seem to be fine. Any other ideas what it could be?

    Could still be a pulley.

I just changed the idler closest to the alternator. I was barely able to tell the pulley was bad. Even when I pulled it and spun it, I wasn't 100% sure. It felt almost as good as the new one. Noise gone, though.

That's what I was thinking, but the voltage for my alternator is fine. According to my CPU

Ok. How could you explain the sound you had?

My alternator whinned for about 2 days before it completely went out on me on the freeway to work. It sounded like a hand cranking generator sound, if you ever used one.... My gauges suddenly stopped working and stock radio would cut out every couple seconds.

A whine that got louder with engine RPM. Sounded like I had a supercharger. Was worse in warm weather, oddly enough. Started around 111k, drove on it for 3k until I had a warm day where I felt like dealing with it.

Did the pitch of the whine ever change for you? I would say minthat sounds the same, but once in a while the pitch will become a lot higher

It happens with, and without AC on

If anything, it may have gotten higher pitched at higher RPM, but I think it generally stayed about the same.

This was also a thought I had, but wouldn't that make odd sounds while turning the wheel? This has been happening for about 10 months, so if it was that I would suspect it would crap out already

Worn steering pump makes most noise a full lock.

Was hoping someone installed a supercharger for you, just because. But when does that ever happen.
