So just recently, I can hear some whining noise coming from the front of the engine. I did some searching and came up with the idler pulleys as the possible culprit. I replaced the two upper and the one lower but the noise is still there. See attached diagram for the ones I am talking about.

Anybody has some direction for me as to what it is making the noise. Is it harmful to run the truck like that? Will it leave me stranded? The truck has 131k miles on the clock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Start up your truck and unplug your alternator mine is currently doing the same and I have been told it's the bearings in the alternatorgoing out

I have a similar whine from getting stuck during a water crossing but using a long screwdriver I was able to tell that it was my idler pulleys. Have you tried listening for a source yet? I've been running with this noise for 10k miles now and no problem...

When I replaced the alternator, it definitely stopped. Mind you, that was the original one and it lasted me 225k miles.

Do some inspecting before you go and replace your alternator. Rockauto sells replacement pulleys for every part on your truck. (I'm looking at replacing a few of mine now)
